B. Summary of the Lesson Plan : For this day in the lesson, I will have the students look more into the stories that are in the newspaper. As a class, we are going to discuss all the different types of news that we can read in the newspaper.
C. Basic Information: Grade Level: 2nd grade Time to Complete this Lesson: 50 minutes Groupings: whole group
D. Materials: Smart boardnewspaper
E. Objectives: o NV State Social Studies Standards
H3.2.6A Read and discuss news events in the community. o Student-Friendly Standards
I can read and talk about the news that’s going on in my neighborhood or community.
F. Vocabulary Newspaper – an item to learn about what’s happening in the world. News – important events that happen in a day.
G. Procedure: 1. I’ll remind the students what we went over yesterday with the newspaper as well
as the online newspaper. 2. I’ll give the students their own newspaper so that we can look over it together as a
class. 3. I’ll direct the students to different stories in the paper that I have picked out before
hand, and have them read over it. 4. I will then ask the students different questions about the story, like: “why do you
think this is important enough to be in the newspaper? What do you think about the story? What type of news story would you want to write about?”

5. After a number of students answer the question, I will introduce the project of the unit which will involve the students working as a class to make their very own classroom newspaper.
6. I will give every student their job as well as the criteria of the assignment.
Assessment: What will you use to measure student understanding?
n/a review Explain how you will know students understand the concepts from the
lesson. n/a review
H. Closure: Remind the students of the topics we talked about when it came to the newspaper,
and tell them to brainstorm ideas for the classroom newspaper.
I. Reflection: 1. Which part of the lesson do you think will be the easiest for you to teach?
I feel like since the lesson is mostly review all of it will be easy to teach. 2. Which part will be most challenging for you to teach?
I think introducing the idea of the project might catch the students off guard. 3. How will you follow up or extend this lesson?
There will be times where I can just bring out the newspaper in class and talk about it.
4. What can you do for students who don’t grasp the concepts?Have them work closely with their shoulder partner or ask me questions.
5. Which part of the lesson, if any, do you think might need to change?I might need to add more information and specify what I want.
6. When you were writing this lesson plan, what was the most difficult part?I wasn’t sure if this should be the second day of the unit, but it made the most sense.
