Proposal

Task at hand

Our design company has been approached and asked by OZ Backpackers to create for them

a fully interactive and animated website for their company. OZ backpackers offer

economical accommodations for backpackers interested in backpacking in Australia.

This brief showcases what we have been asked to do, what our design company will be

making for Oz Backpackers (the interactive website), what the different kinds of pages we

are going to use for the webpage and the content of each page. In addition, we will also be

displaying what target audience the product will be aimed at, showing why the audience has

been chosen and what resources will be required, the project deadline and we will also be

talking about legal issues, copyright and confirmation.

Pages and contents

The product to be produced is the interactive website. We are aiming to add as much

interactivity as possible into the website in order to boost the viewing experience for the

viewers. The website is going to contain a main interactive introduction page with the topics

home, book, contact and about us present in the navigation bar, the main context of the

introduction page is to welcome you to the website with an interactive animation that is

relevant to Oz Backpackers. The home page is going to include the same format for the

navigation bar and is going to have a main text box in the middle talking about Oz

backpackers and their accommodations, on the side right next to the text box in the middle

is going to be a slideshow showing some of Australia’s most attractive places to visit which

could be potentially included in your backpacking visit to Australia depending on which part

of Australia you are going to backpack in. The booking’s page is going to include the

different packages available from Oz backpackers with a brief description of the package, a

picture that showcases that package and also the price. After selecting your desired

accommodation package you will be taken to the actual booking section of the booking

page, this section includes boxes of information that is need to be filled in by the viewer, the

boxes are going to be divided into three sections; personal information, contact information

and terms and conditions agreement. The personal information section is going to include

boxes such as first name, last name, date of birth and sex. The contact information section is

going to contain boxes such as email address, contact number, home address, country/state

and postcode. The terms and conditions agreement section is pretty self-explanatory as it

include the terms and condition and whether you agree to them or not.

Making the product successful

To make the site successful I will have to make sure everything works on all pages. I will

ensure that all the links are all active and link to the right pages. I will also check that images

have the correct source and that they are displayed efficiently.

To make the site more alluring I would require the use of more resource types. The first type

would be the use of video. A video would be good to include on the website to show

customers more about what Australia is all about. Not everyone will have the requirements

to run the video so I am going to include something which doesn’t require as much

streaming and a little less complex audio file. I could give the opportunity for visitors to

download the files as well in case they are incapable of streaming the video.

To ensure security for the customer when they have selected their preferred backpacking

accommodation I am going to make sure that all their contact and address details stay with

just the site and no one else. All information will stay confidential. I will state this on the site

so customers are aware of that.

Target audience

The main target audience that I am going to appeal to is going to be male and females

between the ages of 18-25. I am going to be appealing to this particular age group due to

them being the most with free time on their hands as they are done with school and college

and the fact that they are the ones that are keen on backpacking and seeing the world.

If the main target audience that I’m appealing to is going to be male and females between

the ages of 18-25 then I will have to design the site in a way to appeal and suite male and

females between the ages of 18-25. To do this I will have to think carefully about colours,

the theme and most importantly the style of the text. I will be using a light blue header but

then simply using black text on a white/silver background.

Ethical and Legal considerations

My website will definitely not include any offensive material to race, gender, religion, sexual

orientation or disability. No bad language and no reference to drugs and/or people in

respect of libellous content. Offending the customers will put them off from visiting my site

again and also from purchase so therefore it is my job to make the site friendly and as

welcoming as possible.

Copyright is a set of legal rights that rise in literary and artistic work. These set of laws forbid

anyone to copy the artistic work that you’ve done, say for example a painting you have

painted which is your own creation and you haven’t copied of anyone, and in this case the

website. You now have a set of rights in that work that you have done, these set of rights

last until you die and 70 years after from the end of the calendar year in which you have

died. However, if this work has been made available to the public by an authorised person

that holds the rights to that work then that certain piece of work would not have any

copyright laws on it. The set laws talked about above are:

Page 10: Unit 65 ass 2

10

It is an offence to perform any of the following acts without the consent of the owner:

Copy the work.

Rent, lend or issue copies of the work to the public.

Perform, broadcast or show the work in public.

Adapt the work.

Deadline

To create the site it would take me roughly around 10-15 hours of creating time. Gathering

resources would be my first task for the site. Getting the images together, thinking of

animations that would beneficial and relevant to the website, this would take 4-5 hours of

my time. The rest would be constructing the site together and typing up the text links. 2

weeks would be a good estimate for the creation of the website. However, the deadline that

has been given to us by Oz Backpackers is the 26th of November 2012.
