Present Perfect + since and forWe use the Present Perfect + since/for to

talk about how long present situations have lasted

Since is used when we are talking about something that started at a particular point of time in the past. For example: We have known each other since 1990.

For is used when we are talking about a period of time. For example: We have known each other for 16 years.
