The Spring Festival, the Chinese lunar New Year, is celebrated according to the lunar calendar. Generally speaking, all the members of a family gather round a table to have a lot of food and drinks while watching TV. The character gao in the word niangao shares the same meaning with the word “high”, suggesting “growing up and prospering( 繁荣 )” in the new year.
