Hi Alex,

I am writing this with one hand because I had an accident playing tennis

yesterday in the rain. I was running for a ball when I slipped on the wet

court and fell over! Unfortunately I pulled a muscle in my shoulder and

sprained my wrist. I had an X-ray but luckily nothing was broken. The

doctor decided to put my wrist in a cast so it’s pretty uncomfortable.

What a drag! If the court hadn’t been wet, I wouldn’t have fallen over.

1 Number the tips for public speaking in order.

2 Match the headings with the sections in the speech.

3 Write a speech on the following topic: “Kids eat too much junk food.” Use the headings in 2 to model your speech.

a

The reason for this is that there are too many distractions such as video games, hundreds of TV

channels and DVDs. As a result kids spend the majority of their time sitting down rather than

exercising.

b

Exercise on a regular basis is extremely important for kids so they stay healthy and in shape.

c

It’s a fact these days that most kids do little or no exercise. Previous generations played more outdoor

games and sports, but nowadays kids seem to prefer staying inside.

d

Schools should encourage kids and their families to exercise, but at the end of the day it is up to the

kids to get in shape.

Last weekend I went to the Chill Time Health Club and Spa just outside town. Th e club has some incredible facilities, including clay and hard courts for tennis, an indoor and outdoor pool with a diving area, and a high-tech gym with all the latest exercise equipment.

I had reserved the VIP Spa package, and I was looking forward to a fantastic, relaxing experience. First I had a massage, but the therapist was not feeling well and was coughing for the whole hour. Th en I had a pedicure, but the pedicurist was talking to a colleague the whole time, and she got so distracted that she cut my toe! After that I went on a sun bed for an hour,

Not so chill! Not so chill! Not so chill! Not so chill!but the attendant turned up the UV rays so high that I got a little burned. As a result, my skin was so sore that I couldn’t take a sauna as I had planned. So instead I decided to go to the restaurant and have a relaxing cup of tea, but unfortunately it had an insect in it. It made me feel so sick that I didn’t want a replacement cup. Finally I got a facial made from cucumber and peas, which I have to admit was very cleansing, but by that time I wasn’t in the right mood to enjoy it.

When I complained to the manager at the end of the day about all the problems, she gave me a twenty percent discount, so at least I left happy!
