Why the Table of Classification is Useful in Media

In media the table is used to understand what certain people like in different media. For example from the table I can see that if I was making a newspaper like radio 1 the audience would be most suited to the Grade C1 (Lower Middle) and people who work as a Clerk or Manager.

How Audience Research is important in the creation of media

Media research audience in a variety of ways e.g. rating, BARB, focus groups, questionnaires.

Audience research is useful for many different reasons, from knowing the type of insolent language to include to what time it should be available to watch or buy. This is very important for making a film or TV series in particular as it could be watched by someone of a younger age during the day. This could cause complaints and negative comment which could badly damage the selling of the product. Audience research also allows creators of advertisements to make their product better suit where they are found. E.g. A new car would be placed in a car magazine or a video advert during Top Gear or another program where the audience would more likely be interested in buying the product.

My Audience for Unit 21 from the Classifications table

My Unit 21 project is an animation and aimed at children, teenagers and young adults and therefore Grade E and D. It would be shown on TV on channels such as BBC Three or Channel 4 and possibly CBBC so it is available to watch by younger teenagers and children.

Constraints, codes of practice and or regulations

I made sure I did not use over 30 seconds of a song as well as using songs that are not copyright protected. That animation is not offensive and is acceptable for most ages above 8 but is recommended higher due to the small amount violence.

Avatar Of Audience For Unit 21

Student- My target audience is people who are

young and still at school. This is important as the

animation includes slightly immature humour and is a

cartoon which is often appealing to younger

children.Bored- My animation is comedic and is designed to make people laugh. It also includes exciting scenes and some action.

Simple- There is a simple sense of humour so everyone can watch and laugh. This is why it would be available on a variety of channels, so that a variety of people can watch it.

What I have done with my Unit 21 product to suit it to the target audience

I have used a basic cartoon style to suit the young audience as well as simple humour that most people will understand. I have also chosen to use little violence and no use language or talking so it suitable to watch for all ages. The use of bright colours and lively atmosphere also helps it appeal to the audience.

At the end of the animation I decided to create a interesting outro with upbeat music as this animation is made for humour and to keep people joyful.
