Tools I have used

Text

I have used the text tool in InDesign to put the information into the leaflet this needed to be done or there is nothing to read and no information but when you want to add text you need to click on the text tool and you can type a letter or a paragraph.

Move Tool The move tool is used in Photoshop and InDesign but in InDesign it is called the selection tool. It is used to move things to another place e.g. images and also text boxes. You can access this tool by clicking on it you can find it on the top of the toolbar or by pressing the V button on the keyboard.

Lasso tool There are three different types of lasso tools and they are the lasso, polygonal and magnetic all these types of lasso do the same thing but in a different way it creates a

custom selection that gets done by free-hand it are also used to cut out and allows you to select different parts of the image you can access this tool by clicking on it or by pressing L on your keyboard the way you get all of them up is by clicking and holding to get the menu up.

Magic Wand Tool

I used the magic wand tool to get rid of my background of the Weymouth collage logo you select the background area and it gets highlighted and then you delete the highlighted area

Frame Tool

I used the rectangle frame tool to put pictures in to my leaflet by drawing the box to the size to put the image into the rectangle you have to go to files and get the picture you want and it will go into the rectangle the you right click and then click fitting and then click on fit content to frame.

Colour I used the fill colour to put colour in my boxes to make my leaflet stand out you can also change the colour by using the percentage by using this you can make different shades of the colour you want. You also have the colour bar where you can pick the colour you want that is a simple way they by using the percentage you can change it.

Crop toolThe crop tool is used to cut down an image to make it smaller by getting rid of what doesn’t have to be on the image in these two images I have shown what a cropping tool does and how it works in figure 2 it is the whole word document but after I cropped the image it ends up like figure 1.

Burn tool The burn tool makes an image go darker fir example if you wanted a darker picture the burn tool would be what you would have used as it gives the image a great effect.

Image Resolution Image resolution is the detail that the image holds this term is applied to raster digital image and other images but the higher the resolution the more detailed the image is going to be. Image resolution is measured in different ways it is identified by how close the lines are to each other and it can still be visually resolved. Resolution is measured in (DPI) also known as dots per inch and there is also ppi this is known as pixels per inch. Dots per inch are used to determine the amount of details the image has. If a final image is displayed on a computer screen the resolution should be 72-96 dpi. The final image that wants to get printed the best way is to set the resolution to the highest it can be and that is around 300 dpi and if you wanted to enlarge an image for the web or to print you should scan it to the highest Dpi you can and then you should enlarge it in a graphics software for example Photoshop then you can save it to any file types you want.

Colour depthColour depth is also known as bit depth it is the number of bits used to indicate the colour of a single pixel the image has colour depth the more the realistic the image is going to be there are different bit colour but the most popular are the 8-bit colour uses 8 colours this gives you a better image than 2-bit. Image quality increase the most colour depth change this is because you are upgrading the depth that each pixel can obtain, so each colour can be brighter or darker than it originally was improving its quality. This also increases the file size with this there is more unique coding for each pixel which increases the file size with it.

File formats The file format that have used in my leaflet was a jpeg I used this because it is a small file size and it takes up less memory and it is easier to submit over the internet but the person that receives it can change it to any file type lie png, gif and tiff.

Compression techniques There are 2 different types of compression theses are called Lossy and lossless compression. Lossless compression is preferred to use for archival purposes and often is used for medical imaging, technical drawings, clip art, or comics. The other compression is Lossy compression methods are used at low bit rates this introduces compression to artefacts also Lossy methods are especially suitable for natural images such as photographs.

Copyright Copyright is a legal concept if you use anything that you are not allowed you can get punished but it can get serious where they can take it to court or you can get chucked out of education but there are sites that are copyright free like stock photos as they are copyright free.

Teacher’s feedback I was going to use a picture that was not a copyright free and my lectures explained to me that I had to use a copyright free one but I didn’t I could of got in a lot of trouble and that’s why I ended up using a copyright free photo stock website where I got my images .
