Unit 27 – Task 2

Performance Strengths and Areas for Improvement

Page 2: Unit 27 – task 2 strenghts and development areas

1st Strength

• Excellence Trait – Body Composition• A striker needs good body composition; body

fat to muscle ratio. They need to be lean in order to have efficient muscles to help the run fast to intercept balls and last the duration of a 90 minute game. Sam has good body composition this advantages him as he is tall and lean, this enables him to be able to utilises his power when taking shots.

2nd Strength

• Excellence Trait – Aerobic Fitness• It is important to have good aerobic fitness so that

Sam can fully utilise the oxygen he inhales and produce the maximum amount of energy possible to help keep energetic throughout a game. Sam has good aerobic fitness this benefits him when sprinting to a ball, so he can beat the opposition to the ball. He can improve this by doing long slow training, which increase the heart rate.

3rd Strength

• Excellence Trait – Power• Power is the ability to use strength at speed, this

is especially important for strikers and advantages Sam as they need to be able to direct strength when shooting a ball and at speed if they are running onto the ball. Resulting in a powerful shot, hopefully leading to a goal. Sam already fairly strong, so to increase power he will need to work on his speed.

4th Strength

• Excellence Trait - Strength• Sam is able to have good maximum muscle

force against resistance. This advantages Sam to have strength when tackling opposition then maintaining possession of the ball, enabling him to take a shot. He can improve his strength further by doing weight training, slowly increase number of reps or the amount of weights.

1st Development Area

• Excellence Trait – Muscular Endurance• Muscular endurance is the ability of muscles to work

continuously for a long period of time without fatiguing. Myself and Sam's coach agree that he needs to development his muscular endurance as without it disadvantages him as he fatigues in games, being a striker he is required to run a lot and by increasing muscular endurance he will be able to sustain his muscle working to support the running required. He can improve this by doing circuit training or doing weights for longer reps.

2nd Development Area

• Excellence Trait – Co-ordination • Co-ordination is the ability of a person to use two

or more body parts at the same time. Sam needs to improve his co-ordination, so he can move smoothly and quickly whilst dribbling and holding off the opposition at the same time, it disadvantages him as he will be less liking to be able to do this. Sam can improve co-ordination by doing speed and agility drills, these should no be physically exhausting though.

3rd Development Area

• Excellence Trait – Balance• Balance is the ability of a person to evenly

distribute their weight and remain steady and upright. Sam needs to improve his balance as it may disadvantage him when trying to keep shots on target and to reaching difficult volley strikes accurately. He can improve this by doing yoga.

4th Development Area

• Excellence Trait – Stamina• Stamina is the ability of a person to exercise

or sustain prolonged physical or mental effort over a long period of time. Sam needs to improve his stamina as it may disadvantage him in not being able to last the full duration of a match. Stamina can be improved by doing interval training.
