Unit 2: Waves. Light and Color.
Transmission: the passing of light through matter
Pg 581-585

Unit 2: Waves. Visible Light. Transparent: when visible light is easily
transmitted through matter
![Page 3: Unit 2: Waves. Light and Color](https://reader030.vdocuments.us/reader030/viewer/2022012507/6182ba5d1c9bf876ed716f92/html5/thumbnails/3.jpg)
Unit 2: Waves. Visible Light. Translucent: when visible light is transmitted but scattered when passing through matter
This usually results in a blurred effect.
![Page 4: Unit 2: Waves. Light and Color](https://reader030.vdocuments.us/reader030/viewer/2022012507/6182ba5d1c9bf876ed716f92/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
Unit 2: Waves. Visible Light. Opaque: when visible light is NOT transmitted
through matter
You cannot see through opaque materials.
![Page 5: Unit 2: Waves. Light and Color](https://reader030.vdocuments.us/reader030/viewer/2022012507/6182ba5d1c9bf876ed716f92/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
Unit 2: Waves. Visible Light. Quick Review: Which is
transparent, translucent, and opaque?
![Page 6: Unit 2: Waves. Light and Color](https://reader030.vdocuments.us/reader030/viewer/2022012507/6182ba5d1c9bf876ed716f92/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
Unit 2: Waves. Visible Light.

Unit 2: Waves. Visible Light. Color. Colors of transparent or
translucent objects: You see the colors of
light that are transmitted through the
object.
Colors of opaque objects: You see only the color of the
white light that is transmitted through the
object. The rest of the colors are absorbed by the object.

Unit 2: Waves. Visible Light. Color.
White: All visible light – all of the colors of are
reflected.
Black: Absence of light – all of the colors of are
absorbed.

Unit 2: Waves. Visible Light. Color.
Pigment: give paint color by reflecting some colors of light and absorbing others.

Unit 2: Waves. Visible Light. Color.
Color addition: When colors of light are
combined to form a new color, more wavelengths
are present.
Color subtraction: Mixing colored
pigments causes more light to be absorbed, or
subtracted.

Unit 2: Waves. Visible Light. Mirrors & Lenses.
Plane Mirror: —Flat surface —Reflection is upright & same size —Virtual image
Ex: bathroom mirror, locker mirror
Concave Mirror: —Curved inward —Reflection can be upside down or upright —Virtual or real image
Ex: inside of spoon, flashlights
Pg 599-604
![Page 12: Unit 2: Waves. Light and Color](https://reader030.vdocuments.us/reader030/viewer/2022012507/6182ba5d1c9bf876ed716f92/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
Unit 2: Waves. Visible Light. Mirrors & Lenses.
Convex Mirror: —Curved outward —Reflection is upright & small —Virtual image
Ex: back of spoon, passenger side mirror in car
Comparison of Mirrors

Unit 2: Waves. Visible Light. Mirrors & Lenses.
Concave Lens: —Curved inward —Thinner in the middle —Light bends away from each other
Convex Lens: —Curved outward —Thicker in the middle —Light refracts toward the center

Unit 2: Waves. Visible Light. Mirrors & Lenses. Convergence vs. Divergence of Light Waves:
Converge—coming together Diverge—move apart Ex: inside of spoon, car headlights, flashlights
