1.1 & 1.5 Aim Of Project

Write a brief introduction on what your task is

what images are needed how the finished image will be used.

The task is that I am a graphics designer & and I have been hired to create a cover for a magazine called “City Life” which includes taking pictures of various areas/points of interests around Salford City College. I could take pictures of the Canteen, Sports ground and possibly the IT Classrooms. These images will be edited using Photoshop and used as front cover pictures which will include other small pictures throughout the magazine; these will be edited so then they will look more appealing to whoever is viewing the magazine. The front of the college could be used as a front cover image as it is very noticeable, well-known and popular.

1.1 & 1.5 Aim Of Project

Salford City College is split into five different colleges, these are Walkden, Future Skills, Pendleton, Eccles and City Skills. There are thousands of students within Salford City College and they have courses ranging in Animal care, Games design, performing arts and IT software/Hardware.

Poster Edges

Brightness – 76%

Cropped

I did these changes because I wanted to make it more modernised so it fits within my magazine with the Poster edges filter. Firstly I added the filter

“poster edges” then, I added the brightness up so then it’s more

visible. Finally, I cropped the picture as I didn’t want all of the picture

included.

Cutout

CroppedI thought I would make these changes to

this particular image because of the filters and brightness options I chose, as

It gives the effect of it being painted. I decreased the brightness and increased the contrast of the picture to make it look

more appealing with how clear it is. Finally, I cropped the picture as most of the picture was quite redundant to have.

Channel Mixer

Reasons why I edited this picture; the filter gives it more

of a digitalised look, then I added the gradient map which

makes it monotone. Then I wanted to add a bit of colour to it so I added the channel mixer so then it has a bit of

colour to it.

Vibrance

Brightness

Reasons why edited the image like this is because I would like to put

this as my front cover of the magazine. This would fit perfectly

as a front cover image as it is about Salford City College. I decreased the vibrance of the picture then I included the filter “Conte Crayon”

which made it slightly blurry. Then I finished off with an increased

brightness

Filter – Conte Crayon

Brightness/Contrast

I cropped the Picture so then it wouldn’t be as big and I also

added the filter “Dry Brush” which fitted just right because,

it makes it look vibrant and stand out a bit more to the

other images I have edited. I cropped it because the rest of the image was unnecessary. Then I turned the brightness up more so then It looks a bit

more visible.

Tool(s) I used within Photoshop

2.3 Final Images Before & After

Crop tool – This highlights an area you want to crop; anything within the highlighted area will be kept but anything out of the

area will be “cropped”.

Anything in the highlighted area will be kept as your image

Anything that is darkened will be “cropped” from the picture.

Page 23: Unit 121 imaging software work

Filter Tool - This tool will add an effect to your images which will change it completely. This can range from…

These effects that are shown (left) and can be applied to the images.

Here are two examples of pictures being applied to images

Page 24: Unit 121 imaging software work

Channel Mixer - This uses the RGB format of colors which then allows you to add a mixture of color to your pictures.

BeforeAfter (with filter

and channel mixer)

As you can tell, the before picture is just the standard picture with its normal colors. Then the after picture has a slight blue tint to it. This is achieved with using the channel mixer

and using different amounts of RGB as shown in the top left picture.

Page 25: Unit 121 imaging software work

Brightness There is a big difference between the two of the pictures as one is darker than the other and the next being brighter. This is what

the brightness option does to your images.

Brightness/Contrast – This tool allows you to change the brightness and contrast of your image. The brightness changes the visibility of your image ranging from it being very dark to being bright. The contrast changes the intensity of the colours in the images.

Page 26: Unit 121 imaging software work

Contrast – As you can tell the colour of the images are slightly different to one another.

One of them having less contrast then the other and the next having more contrast. This is what

contrast does to your images.

+1.6 File Formats – Mind Map

Page 28: Unit 121 imaging software work

1.6 File Formats

Jpeg (Joint Photographic Experts Group) is a format for

compressing image files and are also decompressed once you

open the image file. You can only use this format for saving images rather than trying to save it as a

Doc Format which wouldn’t work.

Page 29: Unit 121 imaging software work

1.6 File Formats

Portable Network Graphics (PNG) is a file that doesn’t exactly

require it to be compressed like a Jpeg needs to and isn’t patented

like a GIF is.

Page 30: Unit 121 imaging software work

1.6 File Formats

Portable Document Format (PDF) is used to present documents in a manner of software. This is different to a PSD as there is no image but only a document.

Photoshop Document (PSD) is a file format that allows you save an image but with the features used in Photoshop. This is different to PDF as you cannot present documents in any manner.

Page 31: Unit 121 imaging software work

1.6 File Formats

Which file format will you use and why?

I have been using the jpeg file format as I will be certain and sure of the choices I have chosen on my pictures. I was certain and pleased with the final image; this is why I saved it as a JPEG. This saved lots more room rather than saving it as a PSD (Photoshop Document).

Page 32: Unit 121 imaging software work

1.7 Organising Your FilesExplain how you have saved all your images

in 1 folder with appropriate file names

I have organised all of my pictures I had take into one folder called “Unit 121 Images”, then I could choose between the images that I wanted to edit. After I had finished editing my images that I wanted, I put the five images into one folder called “Photoshopped Images” . This was in the same folder mentioned. Then I Could easily put the images into this PowerPoint; this made it more efficient accessing my work/images.

Take a screen shot of your fold with you files saved in and paste it here

1.3 Copyright of Images Explain what copyright isCopyright is a law that protects any of your content that you have produced

such as images, music, logos and album art. If someone uses your created content without permission, you can sue them for a reasonable sum of money. You have the choice over your content and what you do with it whether it be letting other people using your content but this could be for a percentage of what you make from using the content.

Explain why you are allowed to use your final images I am allowed to use my content as a final image or other piece of content

as it is mine and have created it in which I automatically own the rights to the image.

Page 35: Unit 121 imaging software work

2.3 How your work meet’s clients needs

Check that your final images meet the original client brief and describe why you think it meets your client’s needs.

Is this image in the correct file format?

Is it high enough quality?

Do the images promote Salford City College?

The final images that I have produced meet the clients brief as I was asked to take pictures around Salford City College which then I would edit the pictures in Photoshop. These images were produced for a magazine called city life; this why they wee edited so then they were more appealing.

The images are in a correct file format (JPEG).This makes sending the images more efficient as the image sizes are not exactly big. The biggest images size is 656 Kilobytes.

The images are a high enough quality as they do not appear to be pixelated when I have saved them. It still appears a good quality even when I preview the pictures. I had saved the image sizes in Photoshop as an 8, this still appears to take less room in my folders whilst retaining good quality.

The images do promote Salford City College as all the images taken were related to the college such as college signs and buildings on campus.
