Hermit crabs have an exoskeleton that covers thefront part of their bodies. This hard covering keeps it safe. Itsabdomen and tail, on the other hand, are soft. This is why the crabsmust live inside a shell. The shell protects these tender parts oftheir bodies. There are more than 500 types of hermit crabs. Somelive in the ocean. Others are terrestrial. They live on land. Whilethese crabs grow, their shells do not. Soon all hermit crabs outgrowtheir homes. Then what do they do? The same thing people do!They look for a new and bigger home and move once again!
