• Why is Ralph an example of GOOD man?• Tries to build shelter for everyone• Tries to keep the island civilized• Thinks of ways to get the boys off the island to return

home• Knows what is more important and what is not priority• Building a signal fire (also for food) and shelter is more

important in order to survive the time they are trapped on the island

• Think of solutions that are to everyone’s benefit

Piggy• The “wise” one• Helps Ralph civilize the island

• Why is Piggy an example of GOOD man?• Thinks of good ideas to help the boys get off the island• Keep the signal fire burning• Use the “hand-raising” rule when someone wants to

speak• Pass the conch around for allowing someone to speak

• Ensure littluns’ safety during the night• Tries to maintain a “society” with “rules” even before his

Media-Female Police Breastfeeds Earthquake Orphan

• During the SiChuan Earthquake, on May 16th, 2008, a female police, Jiang Xiao Juan saves newborn babies by breastfeeding them.

• Jiang Xiao Juan gives up her own breast milk that should’ve been fed to her own 6 month own baby for someone who really needed it to survive, and the orphan babies had absolutely no relationship with Jiang Xiao Juan.

Personal Experience• Everyone knows the feeling of the first day of

school at a new school where you haven’t made any friends yet and don’t know anyone…

• 7 years ago, when I first came to SIS as a 2nd grader, I was scared and worried and didn’t know where to go nor what to do. I was standing in the middle of my classroom feeling lost when a girl came up to me and introduced me to our classmates and showed my around the classroom.

• This made me feel more comfortable in an unfamiliar environment.

Man is EVIL

Jack• The antagonist• Jealous of Ralph’s leader role• Leads most of the boys into savagery• Leader of the “hunter group”

• Why is Jack an example of EVIL man?• Becomes a total savage• Uses violence as the solution to problems• Tries to burn the person he is jealous of (Ralph)

Roger• A cruel boy who bullies others• The one who murders Piggy

• Why is Roger an example of EVIL man?• Kills Piggy• Becomes sadistic• Treats Jack like a king and obeys him in order to get food

and enjoy the advantages (having more people on his side in order to survive on the island)

The Dead Paratrooper• The “beast” from air• The boys thought the dead paratrooper was the

beast that they could hunt and kill

• How does the Dead Paratrooper reflect EVIL man?• The dead paratrooper symbolizes the evilness of

mankind• War• Greed• Conflicts• Death

• Believed that…• Humans are naturally greedy• Humans have a desire for power• There has to be a leader with absolute power to control

people and stop war from happening

• Tina Frundt was a girl who was forced into prostitution when she was 14 years old.

• She said in an interview, “I really relate to what the victims go through because I was trafficked when I was 14 and taken and forced into prostitution.”

• She also claimed that, “It happens for years and years. It’s really difficult to find places and people that will help you.”

• Tina Frundt later started a shelter in Washington, DC, for young adults and children who are caught up in sex trafficking.

Personal Experience• When I was young, I knew an upper grade

classmate who wanted a diamond necklace since 3rd grade, but she couldn’t afford it.

• There was a graduate student who had a rich family background, and her parents bought her a diamond necklace for her birthday present.

[After a month]• The upper grade classmate who wanted a diamond

necklace had the exact same necklace as the graduate student.

• However, the graduate student claims that she lost her diamond necklace in the girls bathroom, but it was gone when she went back to find it and it was not in the lost and found.

Personal Experience (cont.)[Therefore]

• It is obvious that the upper grade classmate saw the diamond necklace that was left in the bathroom and took it, since she wanted a diamond necklace badly.

• As a result: When someone wants something really badly, they will do anything to get their hands on it.

• Desire can make man evil.

I THINK…

Man is naturally GOOD, but

because of the society around

them they become EVIL.

Competition

• For food/survival

• For leadership

• For money

GREED

And…

• For LOVE <3

All these things can lead to…

• Savagery • Selfishness • Disregard towards others

Man can also become “evil” when they

face survival.

Survival• It is nature in which every man will strive for their

life when they face death or anything that might harm themselves.• Because everyone is selfish

• In Lord of the Flies, the boys started out as civilized people, but in the end…• Hunger (Difficulty to find meat)• Fear (of the dark and the beast)• The urge to survive (The weaker, the easier to die)

…turned these boys into savages.
