    Unisys on Security

Unisys plays a prominent role in efforts to combat risk through the technology products and

services it provides to the government and major industries in Mexico. Unisys

commitments to public and financial safety and security are the reasons for the creation of

this index to monitor progress in these areas.

The Unisys Security Index is the only regular snapshot of the nations sense of security.Launched in 2H 2007 and conducted by leading marketing research company Lieberman

Research Group, the Unisys Security Index provides a regular, statistically robust measure

of concerns about eight areas of security:

Organizations and governments today confront potential security threats that didnt exist ageneration ago. The communitys sense of security is a critical determinant of public

confidence in how governments and private organizations respond.

The Unisys approach to security goes beyond bits and bytes, recognizing that the most

effective solutions are going to be those formed through collaboration across interests.

concerned about a data breach by accidental loss, theft or

do not confine their concern to this sector. Clearly private and public sector organizations will benefit if they can

    Unisys Outlook

High Concern among Mexicans about Financial

    and National Security

The Unisys Security Index for Mexico stands at 186 points and highlights considerable

level of concern on matters regarding financial, personal and national security. The

    survey shows:

75 percent of Mexicans are also seriously concerned about other people obtaining

or using their credit/debit card details

A majority of those surveyed (76 percent) are extremely concerned about identity

theft that could lead to unauthorized access or misuse of personal information

Three quarters of Mexicans (73 percent) are seriously concerned (i.e. Extremely

or Very concerned) about national security

In a world where businesses operate 24x7 and cyber criminals dont take a break, these

results pose serious challenges for both Mexican institutions and businesses.

Organizations must do everything in their power to protect client data from cyber as well

as physical threats by deploying solutions that not only enhance enterprise security with

increased visibility across all aspects of security operations, but also inspire customer

    confidence.

8 in 10 Mexicans Concerned About Business and Government

    Protection of Private Data

As part of the Unisys Security Index, Mexican respondents were also asked to rate

their apprehension regarding data breaches caused by accidental loss, theft or

deliberate hacking in organizations which host their personal data. The research shows:

82 percent are very concerned about a data breach in at least one of the following

banking & financial institutions, government, health organizations, telecom

providers & ISP, airlines and hotels

While, 91 percent and 85 percent of the respondents are seriously concerned about

data breaches in banks and government agencies respectively, the report reveals

Mexicans are also concerned about incidents of data loss occurring at health

organizations (86 percent), telecos & ISPs (80 percent), and airlines and hotels

    (71 percent)

With more than three quarters of respondents saying they are very concerned about a

data breach involving at least one of the five organizations, data security has become a

widespread issue of concern. Anxiety over data breaches seems pervasive and

continues to persist despite efforts by governments and commercial organizations to

    secure consumers financial data.

Financial institutions should invest in solutions that can encrypt data-at-rest and

data-in-motion, and conceal networks from unauthorized eyes and enhance

security while ensuring compliance with PCI (Payment Card Industry) and other

    regulatory mandates.

Government agencies must deploy solutions that properly assess and mitigatesecurity risks, monitor and respond to persistent attacks from the outside or inside,

and safeguard what the organization valuescitizen records and sensitive

    government data.

In the healthcare industry, concerns about data breaches have increased as

Mexican hospitals, medical clinics and diagnostic labs have shifted to electronic

health record systems. The only way for healthcare organizations to achieve

immunity from IT failures is to deploy security solutions that protect sensitive patient

records and medical data systems from internal as well as external security threats.

Companies in the hospitality space face an ever-increasing challenge of protecting

customer data and mission-critical IT systems residing within a geographically-dispersed IT infrastructure with numerous exposure points. Data protection from the

inside, as well as from the outside, can help organizations avoid loss of business as

well as prevent instances violations and non-compliance.

Majority of Mexicans do not often report cybercrimes

The survey reveals that 14% of Mexicans have experienced incidents of cybercrime

such as credit/debit card cloning, identity theft and online shopping fraud. But this figure

might not be representative of the bigger picture, as it seems Mexicans often do not

report cybercrimes to the concerned organization or law enforcement authorities.

Victims of cyber-fraud incidents may be unwilling to divulge confidential information,

believe the matter is not serious enough to warrant attention, or simply give up due to

    lack of adequate proof.

Whatever the reason, government agencies and businesses have two important tasks

    at hand:

Its evident that Mexicans are wary of becoming victims of cybercrime and want

assurances that their personal information is safe and will not be misused.

Organizations must invest their time and effort in deploying security solutions that

properly assess and mitigate security risks, monitor and respond to persistent

attacks from the outside, as well as from the inside, and safeguard what theorganization values the mostcustomer confidence and business reputation.

From an enterprise point of view, the timing is also right in terms of reaching out to

consumers with communications built around data security and cybersecurity best

practices. There is an opportunity for institutions and businesses to step in and

educate Mexicans about the potential benefits of cybersecurity. Such initiatives in

conjunction with enhanced enterprise security measures will go a long way in

    inspiring customer confidence.

    However, 14% of the

    respondents say they

    have experienced

some fo rm o fcybercr ime.

    Unisys Perspective on Security

Todays enterprise reality is one of a hostile IT ecosystem riddled with vulnerable

mobile devices, poorly authenticated users, and multiple data and permeable

application security. With the advent of cloud computing, and increasing connectivity

among companies, institutions and individuals, concerns on security have never been

more pressing or conspicuous. In such an environment, protection is no longer a matter

of securing the IT network perimeter, organizations should:

Develop an all-encompassing security strategyA comprehensive security

strategy aligns security objectives and measures with business strategies and

goals. Such an approach lowers overall costs providing technologists, engineers,

and security professionals with a roadmap to follow and guidance on critical

    operations.

Establish a securityfirst mentalityMaintain superior security monitoring,

awareness & reporting capabilities within a holistic cybersecurity framework to

protect enterprise data and networks from internal and external threats. A common

operating picture and real-time visibility across all aspects of security operations willenable organizations to implement and conduct IT security that not only protects

    but also values information.

Adopt a coordinated approach to sensitive data protectionThis is essential

to recognizing the reality of data volume that needs protection and establish

automated ways to analyze and monitor large volumes of data.

Manage identities and entitlements through an integratedapproachCentrally

manage a users digital identity and entitlements to provide highest level of identity

assurance and reduce critical employee errors with continuous messaging and

    policy implementation.

Leverage built-in capabilities of next generation devicesMobile devices like

smartphones and tablets allow for advanced authentication via biometric

techniques like voice, signature and facial recognition. Organizations can utilize

such emerging technologies that have already paved their way into the enterprise

and the consumers mind. The opportunity here is to grow in tandem with consumer

preferences while ensuring highest levels of protection.

Assess and reassess on a continual basisContinuous monitoring and

assessment should be an integral part of the overall enterprise security program. It

is critical to assess risk by performing vulnerability scans periodically and

scheduling audits to gain continued visibility into security gaps and remedialactivities.
