Executive Director Paul Winterssaid this year’s fair, which will beheld Oct. 19-24, will include over 60exhibits in two buildings at the fairgrounds. Fifteen vendors includingfour local businesses and organiza-

tions — Christian Fellowship BaptistChurch (The Trough), Littlejohn’sDairi-O, O’Dells Cafe and UnionChristian Day School — will sellfood and novelties.New Attractions

Winters said the new attractionsthis year include:

• The Eudora Farms Petting Zoowhich will be housed in a 60x100foot tent. The petting zoo will featurea wide variety of exotic animals andoffer camel and pony rides.

• The Game Hype video gameswhich will be housed in the old pet-

ting zoo building. Game Hype has 20flatpanel HDTVs on which XBox,Nintendo and Playstation videogames can be played. There is nocharge to play.

• Wicked Bull LLC, a wild bullriding exhibition on Friday, Oct. 22,and Saturday, Oct. 23. Professionalbull riders, clowns and bull fighterswill put on a two-hour (8-10 p.m.)show in the Equestrian Arena com-plete with an announcer, pyrotech-nics and music.Concerts

This year, the Union County Fair is in for a mud-sling-ing, heart-pounding two-day extravaganza when theWicked Bull Company makes its way to Union.

Wicked Bull, LLC – an entertainment company madeup of human and bovine athletes – will perform two night’sworth of “Xtreme Excitement” Wicked Bull stunt shows.

The shows and events are performed by the WickedBull Team, which is made up of nationally recognizedbull riders, top freestyle bull fighters, award winning live-stock and charismatic announcers.

Cowboys/bull fighters who will be showcasing their tal-

ents in Union include BradChambers, Cole Ivey, JasonBrobst, Carlos Garcia andChad Van Anburg.

“Cole Ivey and Jason Brobst are the two best bullfighters east of the Mississippi,” said Wicked Bull EmceeAustin Stewart.

Stewart admits he is known as the funny man of the group.“During the show I’ll be keeping the crowd enter-

tained by telling jokes and making fun of people,” hesaid. “I try to stay as far away as possible from the bulls,though. I’m scared to death of them.”

Exotic animals comingto the Union County Fair

There are 40 acres on the outskirts of Aiken Countywith occupants who aren’t your typical South Carolinians.

It’s a place “where more than imaginations run wild.”And some of those occupants are coming to Union

County to say hello during the 2010 Union County Fairbeginning Tuesday, Oct. 19.

A new attraction to this year’s fair is the Eudora FarmsInteractive Petting Zoo. The petting zoo will be open forbusiness each day of the2010 fair and includes 20-25rare and exotic animals fromaround the world.

Eudora Farms’ pettingzoo promises an interactive,hands-on experience with itsexotic animals, including itsanimal ambassadors like“Little Joe” the wallaby,“Juliet” the ScotchHighlander, “Humphrey”the camel, “Rascal” theFennec fox and even “Kevin Bacon” the pot belly pig.

“All the animals bring smiles to all who meet them!”according to Eudora Farms Web site at www.eudora-farms.com. “We place the highest priority in cleanlinessand professionalism which has helped to build a reputa-tion of quality that’s hard to find.”

The petting zoo has been a popular attraction at sever-al festivals and events throughout the Southeast and it isan attraction that is sure to brighten any fair-goer’s expe-rience.

“Young and young at heart enjoy our zoo and the thrillof our camel rides,” says the farm’s Web site.

Eudora Farms mission is to present an educational andinteractive animal adventure like none other.

“Everything from antelope to zebra roam our country-side setting and we want to share our experience and thebeauty of these animals with as many visitors as possible,”the Web site says, including those who visit its mobileshows like the interactive petting zoo. “Education is the keyto preserving these animals for future generations to enjoy.”

That mission is one of the reasons the farm’s owners,Mark and Kim Nisbet, created the 40-acre haven for theseexotic animals.

The Nisbets met in the summer of 1990 while Kim wasattending a dog training facility in North Carolina to

The focus of the Union County Agricultural Fair formore than 100 years is right there in the name – agri-culture. ages will be treated to an array of rides and attractions pro-vided by a mainstay of the fair circuit – Reithoffer Shows.

“We shop the world for the newest and most thrillingrides available,” said Superintendant Nick Alberts.

Those rides include four categories – spectacular rides,thrill rides, family rides and kiddie rides.

“They canexpect to see spec-tacular rides, suchas ‘Freakout’ and‘Slingshot,’ whichis a tower measuring 100 feet,” Alberts said. “They canalso expect thrill rides like the ‘Zipper’ and the ‘Ring ofFire.’”

Alberts assured the company will also be bringing infamiliar favorites such as the “Scrambler,” “Tilt-A-Whirl”and “Bumper Cars.”

Reithoffer Shows officially began in 1896 when JuliusReithoffer purchased a steam-driven carousel and began ashow business dynasty.

The Reithoffers expanded their route by taking theshows from the railways to the roads in 1919. By makingthe decision in 1929 to separate the show into units andfocus on rides, Pat Reithoffer, Sr. brought the companythrough the Depression.

In 1967, Pat Reithoffer, Jr. introduced to the repertoirea category of rides known as “super spectacular rides.”

Since 2000, the fifth generation of Reithoffers havebeen in training to take over and shape the future ofAmerican carnivals.

Get ready to smash,skate, juke, jump, rock androll at this year’s UnionCounty Fair.

Game Hype — toutedas an “exciting free-admis-sion video game attrac-tion” — will be making itsdebut appearance in UnionCounty during this year’sfair.

The video game eventproduction company offers16 different titles on all ofthe newest next generationgaming systems, includingthe Nintendo Wii andPlayStation 3 consoles.Popular titles like “GuitarHero,” “Super Mario Bros.Wii,” “Super SmashBros.,” “Madden NFL2010” and “Halo 3” will beavailable to play on sever-al flat-panel TVs andkiosks each day during thefair for the enjoyment —or competitive nature — ofanyone ages 5-95.

Several of those sta-tions also offer two-playerplay.

All games are rated “E”for Everyone or “T” forTeen and everyone is invit-

ed to show off their gam-ing skills or pick up a con-troller for the first time toget in on the fun.

“It is free, open play soanyone can walk up andplay the games theychoose,” said Game HypeDirector EventManagement BrandonSimmons.

All fair-goers will havethe opportunity to stop bythe Game Hype attractionwhile they are in atten-dance throughout the fair.

The video game attrac-tion has been featured atmore than 40 events sinceit was founded in 2008 bya group of individuals withseveral years of experiencein music and video gameevent production. GameHype offers the latest infamily-friendly videogame entertainment andgame tournaments also areheld at each event withvaluable prizes awarded totop finalists.

Simmons said GameHype was developed dueto a need its founders sawfor current and multi-demographic entertain-ment features at events

like county fairs and otherexpos.

“There are always newgames coming out so thefeature is always freshevery year,” he said. “Italso provides quality andentertainment for all agedemographics from veryyoung children who enjoythe Wii games to tweensand teens who enjoy theracing and sports gamesand even older adults whooften enjoy it even morethan the kids.”

And it’s a popularattraction.

Boo Boo the Circus Clown is returning for his secondyear at the Union County Fair. He will be performing dailyduring this yearʼs fair.

“I can guarantee if you meet him,he’ll make you laugh,” Ron Yarboroughsaid about his alter-ego, Boo Boo theCircus Clown.

As a youngster, RonYarborough started“clowning around” andhe eventually adoptedthe persona of “BooBoo.”

Now – 32 years later –he is the self-proclaimed“side-splitting architectof slapstick comedy cir-cus clowning.”

“I’m an old circusclown by heart,” he said.

Union residents willhave an opportunity tojoin in on Boo Boo’s funat the 2010 UnionCounty Fair, as he willbe performing several30-minute shows eachnight.

“It’s a ton of slapstickcomedy with a littlemagic. It’s a one-mancircus without the ani-mals,” Yarborough said.“The whole show isaudience participation.”

During an interview with The UnionDaily Times, Boo Boo the Clownrevealed several secrets about himselfand the show, mentioning he would notbe able to perform if not for his audi-ence.

“Oh I never work bymyself,” Boo Boo said.“It scares me.”

Boo Boo also said heis often referred to assilly and zany.

“He’s not really alltogether,” Yarboroughsaid. “That’s why theycall him Boo Boo.”

Between Boo Boo theCircus Clown’s shows,he will be roaming themidway and interactingwith those in attendanceat the fair.

This year will be thesecond in a row at whichYarborough has per-formed.

“I really enjoyed lastyear,” he said. “UnionCounty was very appre-ciative. I met a lot of nicepeople.”
