Concerts and Presentations

There were lots of parents and families attending our end of year presentations and concerts last week – we loved having you at school to share this with us. This year we split the presentations into year levels to accommodate the large numbers in each year group and we hope that we were able to fit everybody in to see the performances. We understand that it was tricky to come along to events at different times but we feel that this is the best way to fit in as many parents as we can at each performance. Thank you again for joining us.

Candy Canes

Students have been exchanging Christmas cards over the past week which has been wonderful to see. Can you please keep candy canes at home and not send them along to school in cards. Thank you.

Second Hand Uniform Donations

If you have students who are no longer attending MRPS and have surplus uniform items, we would appreciate any donations of these to the front office where they will be added to our second hand uniform area. With so many new families starting, we get many requests for second hand items. Thank you.

Merry Christmas

From all of the staff at Margaret River Primary School we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a safe and fun summer season. If you are travelling over the break, please do so carefully and we look forward to seeing you back at school excited to start a new school year. Thank you for all of the support and interest that you have shown in our school this year.

KINDY CHRISTMAS

CELEBRATIONS

Our Kindy students were the epitome of

“cuteness” as they entertained family

and friends at their end of year concert,

which was followed by a visit from Santa

MUSICA VIVA

MAGIC Last week our whole school was

lucky enough to participate in the

Musica Viva program where

students were entertained by,

and got to participate in an inter-

active workshop/performance

with the amazing group MARA!

This ARIA award winning ensem-

ble of virtuoso musicians used

woodwinds, double bass and

plucked string instruments like

bouzoukis and baglamas to

conjure up a unique, jazz

flavoured, multicultural world of

song. Their universal appeal

enabled them to engage with

students across all age groups.

Out with a bang….

Our year six students celebrated the end of their

primary school years with a Graduation Party held at

the Karate Club on Friday night. Supervising parents

reported back that an awesome night was had by all.

Thank you to our lovely team of volunteers who have

manned the Breakfast Club at school on Friday

mornings. Coordinated by Cathie Lambert, this gives

students the opportunity to have a little extra to eat

whilst sharing in each other’s company.

Tennis Racquets for Pre-Primary Classes The school this year is again very fortunate to receive free tennis racquets

for all Pre-Primary students. They are a gift to the school students from

Tennis Australia in recognition of the comprehensive tennis programs

carried out by the school over the past few years, in introducing our

students to and developing their skills in the sport of tennis.

We look forward to these valuable programs continuing well into the future

and wish to remind parents that after school and Saturday morning tennis

programs are available to students through the Margaret River Tennis Club. Visit www.mrtc.org.au

SANTA’s WISH LIST

This year our students were lucky enough to have

the opportunity to write a letter to Santa at the

North Pole with their wish list.

Santa received lots of mail from participating classes

and even though he was very busy, he managed to

reply to every single one.

Pictured here are students from Room 21 posting

their big envelope full of letters into the Santa

box at school.

Student Health and Wellbeing MRPS Code of Conduct incorporates six core values:

Cooperation, Empathy, Enthusiasm, Flexibility, Honesty and Respect

Flexibility - Easy to change or adapt. At Margaret River Primary School, one of our core values is flexibility—the ability to adapt, change and rise to new challenges set forth by learning experiences. At this school we help students to become flexible thinkers who are able to question existing thinking, adapt and creatively meet the demands of the future. Flexibility means being able to make changes like meeting new friends, not getting upset if there are changes and things don’t go our way. Remember that a tree that isn’t flexible or won’t bend is easily broken.

SDERA Our last newsletter for the year is about setting GOALS. It is useful to have a goal to help us achieve what we want, to feel successful and to be confident. Like all of the tools of resilience, goal setting is a skill that needs to be practised. You will also raise your self-confidence. Let’s set a short term goal (over the Christmas holidays). Let’s see who can achieve their goal! Here are some examples:

Independence goal: put away your own washing

Health goal: eat more fruit and vegetables

Self-discipline goal: do your jobs without being asked

Social goal: play more outside with your friends instead of being on your screens

Relationship goal: listen to your parents without talking back

Knowledge goal: practise your times tables

Financial goal: help with jobs around the house maybe you could earn some pocket money Setting goals gives you long-term vision and short-term motivation. It focuses your acquisition of knowledge, and helps you to organize your time and your resources so that you can make the very most of your life.

You need to be persistent and patient

Break goals down into small chunks

Focus on your strengths

Good Luck School Drug Education and Road Aware (SDERA) is a combined venture with the shared vision of providing “A safer and healthy population of young people”. Throughout the year there have been many articles towards assisting our children to develop skills in self-management, self-awareness, social management and social awareness, to contribute to the development of positive, healthy attitudes and behaviours in our children. Keep your mind on the positives of your life. Resilience education gives children and young people the opportunity to develop a range of social and emotional skills that can influence the way they make responsible choices and decisions in an array of situations. This has the potential to enhance the quality of their lives and other people’s lives. We hope you all have a fun and safe Christmas and remember, Santa is always watching for who is being naughty and who is being nice! Thank you for playing a vital role in your child’s health and drug education.

Last week we held a morning tea to recognise our amazing volunteers who have

contributed in so many ways throughout the school year. Volunteers shared a

lovely morning tea provided by staff, including a delicious thank you carrot cake.

Attendees then moved to the music room where they were entertained by our

SIM students with a delightful musical performance.
