Introduction
Directive
According to EU Directive 2009/128/EC pesticide equipment must
function reliably and be used properly for its intended purpose
ensuring that pesticides can be accurately dosed and distributed.
Problem
Double flat fan air induction nozzles are popular and in the meantime
well accepted by farmers. Their main characteristic is based on a
second spray level with mainly symmetric set up.

Introduction
EN 13790 Inspection of sprayers in use – Part 1
4.8.6
Regardless of the distance of the boom above the ground, no liquid
shall be sprayed on the sprayer itself.
Kind of mounting of the boom on a tower compared to a parallelogram
Problematic areas
With low and mid boom height
it‘s ok!
Sprayer frame of mounted sprayer
Holder AS-4, 10 m boom equipped with IDKT 120-04C

Standard EN 13790 Part 1
4.8.6
Regardless of the distance of the boom above the ground, no liquid
shall be sprayed on to the sprayer itself. This does not apply if
needed by function and if dripping is minimised

Approval
EN 13790 Inspection of sprayers in use – Part 1
4.9.1
All nozzles shall be identical (type, size, material and origin) all along
the boom, except where they are intended for a special function for
example the end nozzles for border spraying.

Mixed mounting in the middle section:
no negative effect on cross distribution
 easy to do
 cheap

Measurement of cross distribution with Scanner
Actual situation
Most scanner patternators in use are 1,50 m in depth
At 0,5m spray height opening in-between the spray jets is around
0,6 m
Exact reverse to bring boom into parallel position along the track is
necessary necessary
Measurement of cross distribution with Scanner
New scanner patternator with 2,00 m in depth
Upgrade on current Herbst model of 1,50 m patternator
 Modification takes 2 min
Handling with big booms is much easier
Spray of both jets is catched easily
Summary
According to EU Directive 2009/128/EC and EN 13790 no liquid shall
be sprayed on the sprayer itself.
Double flat fan nozzles may splash on sprayer frame
Mixed mounting of IDKT and IDK / IDKN is favourable when technical
modifications on the sprayer are not possible or causes high expenses
Uniform cross distribution of double flat spray
nozzles may be affected by the design of the sprayer
modifications on the sprayer are not possible or causes high expenses
• easy to do
• cheap
• no negative effect on cross distribution
Herbst scanner patternator with 2m depth is available for refitting in
order to catch complete spray jets of double flat fan nozzles
Standards in revision, such as ISO 16119 and 16122, are amended
with respect to enable mixed mounting of nozzles in special situations
