FOR IMMIDIATE RELEASE

16th October 2014

Unexpected Design: Group Exhibition of Intriguing Art and Sculptural Furniture

set to Inspire Interiors with Personality and Panache.

23rd October – January 2015. Opening Reception 23rd October

Ventique is delighted to present an exhibition to celebrate innovation and creativity in interior décor.

Showcasing intriguing pieces by artists and designers, they hope to exemplify how we can elevate the

experience of everyday life through thought-provoking pieces for the home that challenge and delight.

Ventique is located in the heart of the Chelsea design district. Although the exhibition is spread over

450 square meters, it has been designed to be evocative of a luxury home interior, so guests can relate

to the works in a home setting, rather than a gallery environment. Exquisite rugs by Ventique Crystal

Collection sit alongside critically acclaimed designers, Splinter Works, who are bringing their brand new

pieces including the levitating lounger, Bodice Rocker, in red leather, the gold leaf and carbon fibre

Vessel hammock bathtub and their walnut-veneered Dime drinks cabinet, all coming to London for the

first time. Other highlights include Ornament of alchemy a beautiful collage composition by Rosie

Emerson and Mountain by Clare Cutts a print that will change its colour as you pass by it. Both of these

Relaxation and its diverse forms are at the genesis of the Vessel. A hammock and a bathtub is an

unexpected combination, one made possible by the similarity of the shapes in both objects and their

ability to provide us with momentary escapes from reality.

Bodice Rocker

A comfortable lounger when you’re sitting on it or a beautiful sculpture when you’re not, this curvy

piece is just as useful no matter how you’re using it. The genius design of this chair makes it appear as if

it’s floating weightlessly. With two different resting positions, this chair is the perfect accent for the

home or office.

SMITHSON GALLERY

Established by Anna Smithson in 2009, Smithson represents a selection of hand-picked, talented artists

with a variety of styles. The gallery embraces and understands the effectiveness of medium diversity,

from multi-layered screen prints to works with resin and collage; it is this openness and responsive

attitude that embodies the ethos of Anna’s approach. Anna’s ability to support and mentor artists with

passion and professionalism is refreshing. As a committed arts industry professional, a curator and

director with 10 years of expertise in the field, Anna’s personal approach and expert eye further qualify

the comprehensiveness of her gallery.

Rosie Emerson

Rosie’s figures draw reference from archetype’s old and new, from Artemis to the modern day super

model. Unrestrained in her technique she uses costume, intricate props, dramatic lighting, and playful

collage to elevate her subjects to otherworldly, goddess like status. Staged without context or

background, her subjects are objectified, adorned and manipulated, becoming an allegory of her own

fantasy.

Ornament of Alchemy

Two copies on display

65cm x 120cm

Light is used beautifully in this work of art, with the eye-catching, vibrant

butterflies emitting from the woman’s chest in stark contrast with her

shadowy body, surrounded by emptiness. Your attention is then naturally

drawn down as you follow the dripping lower body of the woman, trying to

find where the body ends.

Clare Cutts

Using screen printing techniques, Clare builds layer upon layer of colour to build a subtle but powerful

image on the paper in a long, labour intensive process involving patience and technique. The images

originate from an emotion inspired immediate response to the natural world.

Mountain

101 cm by 67cm

Print by: Clare Cuts

Different shades of white are displayed beautifully in

this painting, portraying the image of a mountain in

Les Arcs, France. Using different layers of colour this

print emulates the different changes in light a snow

mountain undergoes during the day. You will notice

the subtle changes in colour as you walk past it.

KIRIGRAM

Constanze Schweda founded Kirigram in 2011.

After obtaining her MA in Interior Architecture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich she won

assignments in Paris, London and Berlin where she eventually established her own business in 2000.

With her architectural background and sculptural approach Constanze Schweda’s work often blurs the

boundaries between Design and Fine Art.

Constanze designs furniture, installations and architectural projects. Today she lives and works in

London and maintains an active presence in Berlin.

"Steel is a quick material and the Kirigram style is very versatile, aesthetically and structurally. It can

translate architectural details as well as ornaments into a contemporary language.

This Kirigami-style mirror made with a single sheet of metal features a

vortex of brass extending from its frame which can be seen reflecting

in the mirror behind. You may find yourself staring at the fascinatingly chaotic design that catches the

eye and draws you in.

LABO CRÈME BRÛLÉE

Labo Crème Brûlée’s creations owe as much to art as to lighting. Look closer and you realise technology

chemistry and specialist manufacturing combine to create these wonderful light fittings.

The Glass used contains thousands of bubbles which are reminiscent of sparkling water or champagne

pearls when hit by light. Their glare free warm led light opens up new possibilities in lighting design and

implementation.

Complete bespoke design service available, tailor made for individual projects indoor or outdoor.

The Drop

Manufacture by hand

40cm socket

These exquisite light drops are manufactured by hand and form

organically during a production process, in which a solid oversized glass

drop is created, making them look as if frozen in time.

A high-power LED is encased in an elegant gloss polished "art deco"

socket. These are especially designed for high ceilings in period

buildings as decorative ceiling lights in a celling rose or as a cluster with

several drops in different sizes.

Best used as decorative lights above dining tables and bars, these lights

can also serve as eye-catchers in entrances, staircases, living rooms or

bathrooms.

The lights have a luminous flux of approximately 500 lumens, diffused

in a very wide and homogeneous manner to ensure a dazzle free space.

ZAVYA

Forming a clever dialogue between two angular

blocks, this piece interestingly provides a new

perspective from every angle of its multifaceted

design. Arranged to appear as though one block

floats above the other, the two pieces create a

playfully provocative tension. The result is an

illusion of infinitely parallel lines, never touching.

MINEHEART

Mineheart takes its name from the Shakespearian English words 'mine' and 'heart', meaning 'my heart'.

This expresses their passion to create freely, without restraint.

Mineheart was launched in 2010 by designers Brendan Young and Vanessa Battaglia of Studiomold and

Young & Battaglia. The duo is known for their playful approach to design, and innovative re-

appropriation of materials and imagery.

Theme: Surreal, Cowhide rug, Fantasy, Persian

rug, Designer rug,

Dimensions: 1653 x 1500mm

Thickness: 2mm

Material: Rubber backed fabric

Lead time: 2-3 weeks

The Persian cowhide is unlike any cowhide you have ever seen. It's from a very exotic breed of beast

that lives in the fantasy world of designers Young & Battaglia. The piece is a playful and unexpected

marriage between two of the most iconic rugs in the world. The meticulous and geometric Persian

carpet is seamlessly combined with the natural irregularity of an animal skin rug. The design is made

possible by digitally printing on to a special fabric backed rubber which is the hand cut in to its final hide

shape. Unlike real cowhides this one is hypo-allergenic, washable, non-slip, and will not curl up at the

edges. A fusion between art and utility, this rug will add a beautifully surreal touch to any interior.

ROKOS

Head designer Jim Rokos explores the physical properties of materials to generate aesthetic, intriguing

concepts. Rokos creates products of exceptional quality, made without compromise at any stage of the

process, from design to manufacture. Rokos won the prestigious 2012 Reddot award for the 13° 60°

104° Wine Decanter.

Gauge Vase

Gauge Vase is available in 2 sizes:

Single Stem 170mm high

Stems 223mm high

Mouth-blown and free formed by hand in England, without the use of moulds.

Each piece is accompanied by a certificate, indicating its unique production number.

This product challenges the rigidity of vases by allowing it to rock back and forth. Taking on the behavior

of a flower, it will naturally "wilt" as the flower drinks, letting you know when it requires more water.

This serves as more than just a reminder. The tilting and swaying vase can give the impression that the

flower is blowing in the breeze. Knock it over and it gets right back up on its own, the swaying motion

creating a beautiful display of moving water

IL CEPPO

IL Ceppo is a well-established Italian design brand specialized in outdoor furniture. Their work is

characterized by the perfect symbiosis between unusual and functionality in design.

La Chicca

250 cm in diameter

La Chicca is both a piece of art and the most flexible gazebo you could ask for. Leave it open to enjoy the

sunshine and breeze or put the roof on for a relaxing conversation in the shade, all with an amazing 360

degree view of your surroundings.

When you're not using it, the curved exterior acts as an intriguing sculpture no matter where you decide

to put it.
