Why this session?

Lots of important questions that require good empirical traffic data!

New World-Network of networks: distributed/decentralized management-Massive data sets: always on, always connected, multimedia traffic-Competitive markets (not PTTs anymore)-Need verifiable (public) data for regulatory & market efficiency

Policy & Business Strategy-Q: Is there a BB investment problem?

-P2P/YouTube traffic implications? Is US lagging rest of world? -What resources are scarce? Cost recovery problems?

-Q: How is end-user traffic changing (per user & in aggregate)?-Network architecture? Service provisioning? Traffic models?

-Q: Need for QoS? NN/open access regulation? Digital divide?

-What to observe? Who to observe? Timing (frequency)?-How to observe? (How to share it?)-What research questions do we want to work on in CFP???
