HOW WE TEACH

As Global as the IndustryHospitality is a global business, so we teach in three locations – Glion,

Bulle, and London. Our campuses are on the doorstep of the world’s

finest restaurants and hotels, famous sporting and cultural events, and

the headquarters of global businesses and organizations like UEFA,

the International Olympic Committee and the United Nations Office.

With Switzerland, the home of hospitality, and London, the world’s

business capital, a Glion education gives you the best possible entry

into your career. You will be stretched intellectually, challenged to

develop your practical skills, and obtain crucial business experience.

It is not just an unrivalled education; it is an invaluable opportunity

to access people and business contacts so you can start building your

own personal network.

Personal and Professional DevelopmentWe teach all aspects of traditional and contemporary management with

a broad perspective that takes in the economic, human, and cultural

issues involved. We will help you develop your professional and

personal skills to their maximum, readying you to enter the corporate

world or start your own business. You will acquire essential business

skills like communication, analysis, and entrepreneurship. You will

nurture a global mind-set and perfect soft skills such as attention to

detail, self-improvement, determination, respect, and integrity. All

will maximize your employability.

We build leadership and management competencies through our

undergraduate programs of study. We do this with a curriculum

that mixes rigorous academic study, practical training with a

deep attention to applied learning, real-world internships, and

a philosophy of self-development. We run our programs in three

campuses, in two countries, with students from nearly 100 nations.

We also offer more pathway specializations than any comparable

hospitality management school.

All of it aims at developing open-minded, adaptable, driven individuals who value precision,

diligence, quality, and innovation.

8 | Glion Undergraduate Programs - The path to career success

Academic ExcellenceOur international faculty are leaders in their field, combining

teaching excellence with experience at the highest levels of the

industry. And, while we are built on traditional values, we are

progressive in our research; we regularly publish new thinking

on both the direction of the industry and how best to develop the

skills required to succeed in it.

Applied LearningDetailed, practical instruction in real-world settings is central

to how we teach. Thus our Bachelor Degrees include periods

of hands-on experience, learning the intricacies of frontline

hospitality skills. As you develop as a student, we will support you

with direct mentoring and guided lessons, progressing finally to

more self-managed learning.

Internships Work experience is a crucial element of the Glion education, with all

students doing at least one internship, aided by our career development

department who is very active in helping students secure the right

opportunities. We have a database of 7,000 industry contacts to help

you get direct experience of both operational work and management. It

is not uncommon for our interns to come away with not only valuable

experience but a job offer too. In fact, in 2014, 66% of our students

received job offers after their second internship – meaning two-thirds

of our students enter their final year at Glion already having at least

one job offer. By graduation, the figure is 86%.

“If you are serious about your career, Glion is the place

to come. Everything is based on real-life situations, so

you know that all of it is directly helping you towards the

career you want.”

BBA IN HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT

Who it is forAnyone who wants the best all-round general education in all aspects of

hospitality management. This is a perfect preparation for those seeking

a broad career as a manager, senior executive, or a business owner.

What you will learnProfessional, managerial, and strategic skills, with a focus on applying

contemporary management theory to hospitality. It is an expansive

track, exposing you to the full breadth of the industry with a strong

emphasis on developing the hard and soft skills of someone destined

to be a senior executive.

“I chose the BBA in Hospitality Management because

I wanted a general business degree that would allow

for a broad range of opportunities in the future. In the

BBA, our most important project was the Integrative

Business Planning & Presentation (IBPP) which I found

very interesting. We had to manage an entire virtual hotel.

We had to make decisions affecting our revenue, market

share, etc. This project was very relevant because it is

close to reality and to situations and decisions we will

have to make in the future.”

Valentine Dreyfus – French

“I believe the pathway in Luxury Brand Management will

be an asset to luxury brands such as Cartier. In the luxury

industry, the sale is just a small part compared to the

whole process of luxury business. Decision making, public

speaking, personal presentation, and time management

are all skills that I have initially developed at Glion and

have found to be fundamental in luxury environments.”

“The pathway has two basic sides. The qualitative deals

with how hotels work as an investment and current ideas

in revenue management. The other is technical and

encompasses methods of hotel valuation, calculating

the value of an investment, and pricing and forecasting

methods. It is a priceless business education.”

Robert Grudmann – German

+ Accounting Clerk at Waldorf Astoria – Berlin, Germany

“I decided to go for the Real Estate Finance track because

INDUSTRY TESTIMONIAL

"We recruit Glion students for two reasons: the calibre of

their courses and the calibre of their students. The school

has a great reputation in Switzerland and around the world for

attracting the top students. And, when there, the education

they receive is very well suited to the industry, in particular,

in our opinion, to the luxury industry.

Students from all schools bring talent and a variety of skills

to the hospitality industry. The difference with Glion students

is that they have a very good balance between their practical

skills and theoretical skills, which some of the other hotel

schools may not focus on as much.

We are always impressed by the way Glion keeps up with

the times, delivering an education that’s classically based

by continually developing to be relevant to the latest trends

in the industry. It's the mixture of skills from the service side,

and the management theory which makes Glion of particular

interest to Ritz-Carlton".

“I recruit from Glion because I’m a Glion alumni myself, so I

know the level of training the students have had. They are more

hands on than other graduates – better schooled in the practical

skills – and more open and social too.

Glion’s ESE programs are excellent and I believe students are

very well-trained. They graduate more than ready to succeed in

a company like Amber Lounge or any other part of the Formula

1 industry.

To really succeed, you need to have passion and dedication. My

advice to students would be to enjoy yourself, but make sure you

take advantage of every opportunity you get. Put in the hours,

think about your future and get good work experience so, when

the recruiters come to visit, you are ready.”

SHAPE YOUR FUTURE TODAY

Campus Life Leaders (CLL)The Campus Life Leaders are an important link between students

and all internal stakeholders. CLLs are recruited by the Student

Affairs team on a semester basis. Each student serves as a liaison

between their assigned residence and the Student Affairs department

and their primary role is peer to peer support for fellow students.

As part of their own leadership development, CLLs also work

on individual projects where the main aim it to gain experience

leading others in addition to providing meaningful activities that

will generally improve life on campus.

Student Ambassador Program (SAP)These specially selected students act as the public face of Glion.

Closely tied with the Glion Marketing team, the Ambassadors take

part in all kinds of marketing and public relations activities from

giving prospective students and parents a tour of the campus

during open days to representing Glion in the media or writing

for the Glion blog.

For those who want a career in communications or marketing,

this special program could be a valuable boost for your CV.

Student Government Association (SGA)The SGA is a group of students elected to ensure students’ voices

are represented effectively in Glion. Meeting weekly, they tackle a

wide range of issues and work directly with faculty members like

the CEO, deans and program managers. The SGA also organizes a

range of social events and runs Glion Insider, the Glion newspaper,

and SGA Broadcast, a video channel.

In addition, it runs “The Entrepreneur Committee” – which allows

students to create and pitch business ideas to investors each semester,

giving students the chance to explore their own ideas and develop

valuable entrepreneurial skills – and “Glion in the Community”,

a student-run charity program, where you can get involved in

organizing events and fundraisers to support the local Red Cross.

Developing personal and professional leadership skills are

a key part of our mission. And not just in the classroom, either.

We offer you a portfolio of developmental programs aiming at

maximizing your learning experience. You will have the opportunity

to enroll on many programs from the offset of your studies in

semester one and will be therefore able to immediately benefit

from a wide range of developmental activities that can shape

“We have been working with Glion now for many years

and we always look forward to coming to the school twice

a year to recruit for the various programs we have. What

we appreciate about the students is that there is a really

nice balance between the education and the practical

experience that the students have.

One of the soft skills we look for in a graduate is attitude.

Attitude is everything. But along with a positive attitude

and passion, the one key thing that the Mandarin Oriental
