10.1 ENGR. ABUL KALAM LIBRARY

Since its inception in 1921 in the City Campus, Engr.Abul Kalam Library http://www.neduet.edu.pk/libraryhas grown to become one of the leading academiclibraries particularly focusing engineering sciences andtechnology of the country. The library devotesconsiderable efforts and resources to the developmentof an outstanding library collection to meet the needsof the students, teachers and researchers and serves asthe regional reference library of engineering andtechnology. Services and facilities of the library aregoverned by the library regulations.

Engr. Abul Kalam Library comprises of two buildingsadjacent to each other. The reference and administrationbuilding consists of three floors having a seating capacityof 800 users at a time. The building adjacent to thiscomprises of two floors with Circulation Section on theground and Book Bank /Duty Society on the first floor.Departmental libraries have also been setup in remotecampuses, City Campus and LEJ Campus as well as inthe main campus departments.

Library collection is the blend of traditional informationresources and scholarly electronic resources. Thecollection includes:

General circulation books which include text books Reference books including encyclopedias, handbooks,

dictionaries, manuals etc. Periodicals on current lists of subscription as well as

volumes of back issues of local and internationalscholarly journals; magazine and newspapers

Government documents & Archive material includingActs and Ordinances, Services Rules, Statistical reports,Census reports, Survey reports, Planning reports andBudgets etc.

Non book material, CD-ROMs, DVDs etc. Digital content including databases of E-Books,

E-Journals and E-Thesis etc. Users can also facilitate through Dspace e-repository.

Reference Section provides reading/ reference servicesto its members and users. Books and reference materialincluding audio visual material, periodicals andgovernment documents are restricted to be used withinthe premises and the collection is secured against theftusing state of the art security system based on RFID.

The library provides book lending services through theCirculation Section, Book Bank and Duty Society servicesto members. Circulation Section caters students, facultymembers, researchers and other employees of theuniversity. However, Book Bank issues text books at 10%of the cost of books for the entire semester whereasDuty Society provides them free of cost for the entiresemester to undergraduate students.Library Outreach Service is designed for those peoplewho are not at present associated with NED Universitybut would like to make use of the specialized resourcesavailable at the library of the university. The library alsoconducts orientation programme and Book Fair every

year.The library keeping pace with emerging technologieshas its own Computerized Library Management System,Website, OPAC and Portal Services. Wi-Fi access pointsare also available to facilitate library users.

A computing facility comprising of 65 latest configurationcomputers provides digital services to its users such asaccess to E-Books and E-Journals through the NationalDigital Library Program of HEC, Int ernet facilities, LaserPrinting, Scanning and CD/DVD Writing and Copying ofreference material.

The library is committed to provide a pleasant, user-oriented learning environment for its users. Its missionis to make its resources available and useful to its usersand to sustain and preserve a universal collection ofknowledge for future generations.

10.2 INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (IT) DEPARTMENT

The University has its own Internet facility managedby its Information Technology (IT) Department(formerly Internet Centre) established in 1998-99.The Information Technology (IT) Department sinceits establishment has played a pivotal role indeveloping the varsity’s I.T. infrastructure by providingrobust Internet facility to its users within and outsideof its campuses. The department is equipped withthe state of the art networking equipment and actsas a central IT hub providing services like Internet,Portal, Web, Network Operations and SupportServices round the clock. Continuing the expeditionin producing the best in the Country, this Departmentalso hosts corporate training for its faculty and staffalong with the video conferencing facility enablingits Faculty and Students to join the rest of theEngineering and Technological hubs of the world.

10.2.1 NETWORK & HARDWAREInternet Facility

The IT Department is equipped with the state of theart LAN/WAN equipment. The Optical Fibre corenetwork provides Gigabit connectivity to all thedepartments terminating at the Cisco High-enddistribution switches located at the IT Department.The department also functions as an ISP providingdialup and VPN connections to the Universitystudents, faculty and staff thus enabling them to alsoconnect remotely from their home. At present theUniversity boasts a bandwidth of 120 Mbps on PERN-2 (Pakistan Education and Research Network-2).Coping up with the ever growing technologystandards, the university has extended its servicesand infrastructure highlighted as under; Establishment of NEDUET owned Metro-LAN thus

connecting all its three campuses including Main,LEJ & City campus through its own dedicatedFibre Optic links hence creating a massivelearning network that would facilitate everymember of the varsity irrespective of theircampus location.

Deployment of customized WLAN (Wi-Fi) thusestablishing Wireless Internet Network providingcampus wide coverage.

Deployment of Kaspersky Antivirus solution withcentral management at University Level.

Deployment of Microsoft KMS server for thelargest Microsoft volume based license softwareinstallation.

10.2.2 Hardware Maintenance and Inventory

Department also provides hardware and softwaresupport services in addition to managing hardwareinventory and technical feasibility services.

10.2.3 Video Conferencing Facility

This University has a centrally located VideoConferencing Facility Centre through which NEDUETconnects to any part of the world, locally andInternationally to connect and communicate withvideo and voice facility for the arrangement of virtualclasses (online classes), conferences, seminars,Internet meetings (video conferences) among multiplelocations, as and when required. This facility isavailable round the clock.

10.2.4 INFORMATION SYSTEMS ANDSOFTWARE SECTION

The IT Department focuses on delivering state-of-the-art software using Agile Methodology with FasterDevelopment time and uncompromising integrity,some of them are as follows; Undergraduate andPostgraduate Students Management System, HumanResource Management System, AttendanceInformation System, Shuttle Pass System, HostelManagement System, LTV Management System,Security Operations Management System, StatutoryBodies Management System, Academic PerformanceMonitoring System, Scholarships Management Systemand Internship management system. A part from MISseveral web based applications are also developedby IT department which are playing vital role inautomation of some core university processes e.g.Online semester registration of undergraduate andpostgraduate, online feedback collection ofundergraduate and postgraduate and OnlineAdmissions. This comprehensive and sophisticateddevelopment effort as a whole is termed as NEDUETCampus Management System (NEDUET-CMS). Toaccess information contained within CMS, Everyemployee and student on Intranet uses a front endinterface known as NEDUET Campus Portal. NEDUETPortal is a 24/7 service. Portal works on the principleof Single sign on for multiple applications withpersonalized, secure, and robust and role based accessmanagement.

With the aim of facilitating Undergraduate students,Portal dedicated online Students Interface is enrichedwith the following features:

10.3 INSTRUMENTATION CENTRE

A state of the art Instrumentation Centre is functioningat the University which was established under a grantprovided by the Higher Education Commission (HEC).Its capabilities include calibration of multi-meters,energy meters, circuit breaker testing, pressure/temperature gauges, water quality, etc. The Centrehas well equipped facilities and the necessary expertisefor performing calibration activities, testing and analysisservice, corporate training related to instrumentation,and design services for the local industry as well asother academic institutions in the country. Services ofthe instrumentation centre are subscribed bymultinational and national companies operating inKarachi as well as other universities present acrossPakistan. It also provides training to undergraduateand postgraduate students, and assists Undergraduatestudents in undertaking final year projects of variousdisciplines. In addition, it assists other Universitydepartments in their R&D activities as well. The Centrecomprises of various well equipped Laboratories suchas Electronics and Signals Lab, Pressure andTemperature lab, Equipment Testing Lab, Water Qualityand Weight Lab and a Virtual Instrumentation Lab. Inparticular, the Virtual Instrumentation Lab is equippedwith world renowned National Instruments’ (NI)LabVIEW system which helps engineers in basic dataacquisition and signal processing as well as morecomplex embedded monitoring and controlapplications. The NED University lays emphasis onefforts in contribution towards research andimprovement in quality of its human resource byproviding good and up-to-dated facilities for utilisationby its student, academicians and researchers. TheInstrumentation Centre is one such effort.

The Centre comprises of various well equipped Laboratoriessuch Electronics and Signals Lab, Pressure and TemperatureLab, Equipment Testing Lab, Water Quality and Weight Laband a Virtual Instrumentation Lab.

In particular, the Virtual Instrumentation Lab isequipped with world renowned National Instruments’(NI) Labview system which helps engineers in basic

data acquisition and signal processing as well as morecomplex embedded monitoring and controlapplications. For formal classroom lectures, a smallbut well equipped Training Facility also exists.

The NED University lays emphasis on efforts incontribution towards research and improvement inquality of its human resource by providing good andup-to-dated facilities for utilisation by its student,academicians and researchers. The InstrumentationCentre is one such effort.

10.4 CENTRE FOR CONTINUING ENGINEERINGEDUCATION (CCEE - ACADEMY)

The Centre for Continuing Engineering Education(CCEE) was initially established in 1998. with the helpof a Higher Education Commission grant in 2008,CCEE (Academy) was shifted to modern building eversince its inception, the sole aim of CCEE has been tokeep graduate engineers and allied professionalsuptodate with the latest in Technology and skills inthe execution in Management of specialized technicaltask as well as to generate income for the faculty andthe University through such undertaking.

CCEE (Academy) enables professionals to attain higherlevel of Research, Teaching and Industrial Co-operation. It brings together, new research, newpractices, new technologies, new processes, newtechniques and new experiences for the mutualbenefits of all concerned.

Training programmes, workshops, certificate courses,diploma courses, short courses, training courses leadingto national and international certifications, etc.; inengineering, engineering management, projectmanagement, management of technical businesses,information technology, etc; are executed through thisCentre on periodic basis. Over the years, CCEE has acquired capacity and capabilityto develop and offered customized courses for specificorganizational requirements. Such courses run at theclient’s premises and in some cases, at avenue selectedby the prospective client. CCEE acts as a supplement toundergrate University education of engineers and alliedprofessional to prepare / update them for widerresponsibilities; it facilitate them to remain productiveand creative with lifelong learning.

10.4.1. Objectives of CCEE (Academy):

The objective of CCEE (Academy) are to:- Conduct training programmes, workshops, certificate

courses, diploma courses, short courses, trainingcourses leading to national and internationalcertification, etc. to update Engineers / Professionalwith recent development in Engineering /Management / IT / Sciences and obtained CPD pointas per Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) by laws.

Provide opportunities for working Engineers to

enhance their skills with the objective of improvingtheir employability as well as career prospects.

Provide opportunities for the lower tier in theEngineering / IT Profession to improve their qualificationto meet Professional Body’s registration level.

Offer structured programmes in conventionalsdiscipline for engineers who are unable to findtime to seek admission in formal Masters DegreeProgramme but can acquire necessary credit hoursover longer periods by attending several suchprogrammes in service.

Offer excellent opportunity for Graduates havingBE / BCIT / B.Arch / BS for Equivalent Degrees asrcognized by NED University to obtain “PostgraduateCertificate” in a course offered at MastersProgrammes of NED University of Engineering &Technology. Relevant courses completed in the fourprceding semesters with at least B Grade may becredited towards CGPA on acquiring admission inMaster Programmes at NED.

10.5 COWASJEE EARTHQUAKE STUDY CENTRE

Cowasjee Earthquake Study Centre (CESNED) wasestablished in 2001 after the devastating Bhuj earthquake.The Centre is currently administered by the Departmentof Earthquake Engineering. The objectives of this centreinclude (a) housing national and global data pertainingto earthquake; (b) to act as a centre for disseminatingaccumulated knolwedge; (c) to respond to the emergencyneeds; and (d) be able to providing guiding principles forpre and post disaster earthquake mitigation. It has becomea hub of the earthquake related activities with time. Thevital role played by CESNED after the 2005 Kashmirearthquake led to its recognition as one of the twoearthquake study centres in the Country.

10.6 SHAKE TABLE TESTING FACILITY

The Shake Table laboratory is a state of the art facilitywhich is available in the Department of EarthquakeEngineering. The facility is used to simulate real timeearthquake ground motion to record the dynamicresponse of a given structure placed on the table.

10.7 ADVANCED MATERIAL TESTING FACILITY

The Advaced Material Testing laboratory is a state ofthe art facility which is administered by the Departmentof Earthquake Engineering. The facility is used to conductfull scale static and pseudo dynamic testing of variousstructural components of buildings and bridges.

10.8 PCB FABRICATION LABORATORY

A PCB fabrication Laboratory is available in theDepartment of Electronic Engineering. This is primarilyfor training under-graduate students in PCB fabricationtechnology. The laboratory is supported by PCB layoutdesign software and auto routing software. Thegraduating students with this experience are expectedto benefit in their professional field. The Laboratory isbeing used for fabrication of PCB for local requirement

and possibilities of taking orders for external agenciesis being examined.

10.9 PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT CENTREAdditive manufacturing technologies, more commonlyknown as "Rapid Prototyping" or "3D Printing" have beenused by design and manufacturing organizations forconcept modeling and prototyping as well as for variousapplications such as jigs, fixtures, check gauges, and evenas a bridge-to-tooling and low-volume end-use parts.Emergence of these technologies have lead manufacturingorganizations to reduce their product development cycletime and improve product quality and customization.Global acceptance and application of these technologieshave put the manufacturing industries of Pakistan to facestrong challenges in terms of high quality productdevelopment processes.

The Product Development Centre (PDC) of NEDUniversity has been equipped with state of the artequipment and tools that enable complete reverseengineering and additive manufacturing of products.The equipment available at PDC includes a Faro Armand a Laser Scanner for reverse engineering of productsand a Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) machine tobuild parts directly from CAD data (i.e. tool-lessmanner). Different CAD packages are also used tocomplete the process of product development.

10.10. DIRECTORATE OF INDUSTRIAL LIAISON

The Directorate of Industrial Liaison (DIL) wasestablished at NED University of Engineering &Technology in 1997. The prime objectives of DIL areto create and enhance the required university-industry linkages in the form of various activities.

DIL is since then involved in arrangin g internshipsopportunities in summer and winter vacations forstudents in different organizations/ industries.DIL is engaged in collecting the topics of final yearengineering projects and arranging technical/ practicalhelp from the industries related with the projects. Ina number of cases the industries have assignedprojects to the university students with competentadvisors from their organizations to help the students.

DIL promotes students to showcase their projects inProfessional Expo, Shows and Fairs, NED students haveearned laurels and prizes recently in Re-EngineeringPakistan and PAPS.

In addition, DIL arranges on perpetual basis studyvisits for the students and f aculty at variousindustries and organizations to get the practicalexposure of the industry.

DIL also provides assistance to the organizations/industries in respect of Research and Expert engineeringservices through teaching faculty to address theirtechnical problems.

DIL encourages the prospective Employers for "On-

Campus" hiring and facilitate them to conduct CareerCounseling Sessions, Presentations, Tests and Interviewsfor recruitment. Many multi-national companies, someoverseas employers', local business groups and Smalland Medium Enterprises (SME) are availing suchfacilities on need basis.

DIL has recently embarked on developing GraduateDirectories, arranging career fairs and pre-employmentorientation programs for the graduating batches. DILis also coordinating and motivating the students toparticipate in International University student levelcompetitions, to name a few are: Shell Eco-Marathon,Solar Car Challenge, SAE Formula Car etc.

To foster and promote the engineering profession,the Directorate is representing NED on the StandingCommittee on Science Technology of the Federationof Pakistan Chamber of Commerce & Industry(FPCCI) and the Think Tank Committee of theInstitution of Engineers Pakistan (IEP).

DICE (Energy & Automotive) is a joint collaborativeinitiative of DICE Foundation and NED University ofEngineering and Technology. DICE-Energy/Automotive provides a platform innovations and forcollaboration among academia, industry, government,entrepreneurs and expatriates to integrate science,technology and policy solutions by solving industrialproblems and sharing of ideas for developinginnovative products of the future. It also providesstudents and industry a chance to present their ideasand products to professionals and renownedpersonalities of the country.

DIL in collaboration with ORIC and INJAZ PAKISTAN organizedepartment wise career counseling sessions that meetsthe need of the diverse groups university students byproviding, engaging their career prospective.DIL signed Memorandum of Understanding with variousIndustries / organizations, Purpose of these MoU’s is tocreate a long term framework of collaboration,cooperation and development of strong linkage betweenindustry and NED on training, consultancy, research anddevelopment or any other activity which is in the interestof both ‘Parties’. The industrial collaboration and linkagewould provide opportunity to students and faculty ofNED for training, consultancy, R&D and exposure ofprofessional practices while industry would be benefitedin resolving their technical / managerial issues throughlocal solutions. The collaboration would bring positiveimpact on environment and society.

10.11 OFFICE OF RESEARCH, INNOVATION ANDCOMMERCIALIZATION (ORIC)The Office of Research, Innovation andCommercialization (ORIC) at NED University wasestablished with an aim to provide strategic vision andoperational support to the University’s researchactivities. From its inception, ORIC is committed to playan active role in facilitating the University’s researchand encourage the faculty and students to contribute

and share in promoting goal oriented research activities.ORIC also aims to act as a catalyst for the transformationof knowledge towards invention and innovation andits subsequent commercialization leading to a positiveimpact on the welfare and well-being of our nation.

10.11.1 Objectives:

Since its inception, ORIC has adopted its mandateto enhance the environment for all researchcommercialization and innovation activities:Following are the core objectives of ORIC:1. Developing the university’s strategic research

directions and policies2. Increasing and diversifying research funding3. Improving integration of research and education

at all levels4. Strengthening university-industry relationships5. Promoting entrepreneurship and technology

commercialization6. Protecting University’s intellectual property

10.11.2 Initiatives and Activities:

In pursuance of the Vice Chancellor’s directives forthe management of research initiatives andprograms, ORIC has worked to re-enforce the existingresearch and development activities at NEDUniversity. Many activities were planned andsuccessfully executed for sustaining and improvingthe research, innovation and commercializationhaving an impact for the improvement of areasconcerning economic, industrial and academicdevelopment and their accelerated advancementsfor achieving the national objectives. Some of theseactivities are outlined below:

10.11.3 Organizational Support:

In order to maintain an environment conducive forthe generation of knowledge and to providerecognition to individual inventors, encouraging thedevelopment and dissemination of useful inventionsto society, ORIC has prepared drafts of University’sIntellectual Property Policy and CollaborativeResearch Policy. Besides, ORIC has also developeda comprehensive NED-Research Eco System draftwhich presents a holistic overview of the NEDUETresearch and innovation activities and provides aguideline for technology development and itssubsequent commercialization.

10.11.4 Lab Commercialization:

For the commercialization of the laboratory facilitiesavailable within NED University, ORIC has launched aLab Commercialization Program. Under this programORIC is closely working research labs across the universitysuch as High Performance Computing Center, ResearchCenter For Artificial Intelligence RCAI, 3D Printing FacilityLab. ORIC has also recently commercialized ScanningElectron Microscope for service provision to industryand students for research purposes.

10.11.5 Entrepreneurship Development:

NED Entrepreneurship Society is operating under theumbrella of ORIC as a student wing that is dedicatedto discover, engage and foster creativity and to bringup true entrepreneurial leaders from the university.Several activities took place in the previous year fuelingof the entrepreneurial eco system to fully permeateour campus. A renowned campaign “The undiscoveredentrepreneurs of NED University” brought NED’s silententrepreneurs into limelight. “From Silicon Valley toNED University”, a talk was given by Mr Idrees Kothari,an NEDian and serial entrepreneur from Silicon Valley.DICE Virtual Innovation Competition is being organizedfor the last two years in collaboration with DICEFoundation, USA. Various promising projects came upduring this event which is now in the process ofdevelopment and commercialization. TEDxNEDUniversity was organized on the themes of capacitybuilding of young innovators and entrepreneurs andseveral workshops and trainings organized within thesame lines for the entrepreneurial Development.

10.11.6 Workshops & Training:

ORIC organizes several courses and trainings for thestudents and faculty members. ORIC with itscollaborative partners INJAZ Pakistan offeredEntrepreneurial Masters classes. ORIC also hostedUnilever Foundry for students offering themopportunities to partner with Unilever brands andfunctions and help them solve some exciting challenges.Dr. Umar Saif gave a lecture on “Role of Technology inImproving Governance & Entrepreneurial Landscapeof Pakistan” and a notable NED’s alumni Safwan Shahgave a lecture on Entrepreneurship and exploredprinciples and methods for initiating an entrepreneurialventure. To prepare young engineers with the timemanagement skills, ORIC have been organizingworkshops by Time Lenders to improve general skillsof organizational behavior. Several workshops andcourses are also planned for this year.

10.11.7 Industry Linkages:

It is a strong belief of ORIC that Industry-Universitycollaboration can be mutually beneficial by combiningthe best academic thinking with the expertise ofindustry. There is a strong intent in the NED faculty andstudents to participate extensively in collaborativeresearch programs with the industries. In order toestablish and strengthen University-Industrycollaborations to stimulate industrial research, ORIChas been engaged with different industries, organizationand companies bringing projects in the university asper the industry needs for locally manufactured R&Dsolution and offering students with projectapprenticeship.

10.11.8 Business & Technology Incubation:

To enhance innovative and entrepreneurial prowessof young graduates and to accelerate and encouragethe successful development of entrepreneurial

companies, ORIC has established a Business IncubationCenter by the name of CINETIC - Center of Innovation,Entrepreneurship, Technology Incubation &Commercialization. Almost 8 startups graduated in theprevious year and 11 startups and 6 campus companiesoperating currently at CINETIC. First batch has beensuccessfully graduated while second batch of startupsare in the middle of their process. This strategic stepis aimed to facilitate new breed of young entrepreneursto ensure their participation in the positive economicactivities through pursuing startup companies. Inaddition to generating a higher value addition for thenation’s economy, this step will help addressing therising trends of unemployment and its threat to politicalstability, social unity and economic growth of our nation.

CINETIC provides its startup incubates withinfrastructural support that includes office space, PCs,internet, telephone services apart from the basicprinting, scanning and photocopier services. It alsoprovides great networking opportunities, means to theaccess of financers and lab access services. Excessivementoring from the board of advisors on mattersrelating finance, marketing, legal and related mattersare the part of the incubation program.

Upon realization of importance of protecting IntellectualProperty rights not only for researchers but also forstartups, ORIC has its own IP Office that providesconsultancy to students and faculty in protect andprocessing their ideas and research legally.

10.11.9 Campus Companies:

Campus Companies is an initiative under ORIC thatenables students to operate and establish theirbusinesses in the boundaries of NED University, whilstproviding services and products on-campus. In thisregard, CycleYaari has been operating as an on-campusventure that provides smart and green transportationsolution in the premises of NED University in the formof cycles. OpenMic, is another social venture that aimsat fostering the culture of public dialogue and socialinclusion amongst engineers. BookCafe is an onlinebookstore also function as a novel reading library basedout of CINETIC building, Students can buy books ortake novels on rent. DIYNED Club and Being Studentare recent campus companies operating vibrantlyadding value to the student life at the campus.

10.11.10 Maker Studio:

To provide a platform for thinkers and creators and tofacilitate collaboration and sharing of ideas acrossboundaries of disciplines, ORIC has launchedMakerStudio. The initiative aims at creating anenvironment that fosters creative exploration of ideas.Inspired by MIT’s Fab Labs, MakerStudio enablesmultidisciplinary learning and development for studentsand faculty alike. The facility is available in the groundfloor, CINETIC Building.

10.11.11 Research Internship Program:

This is a selective program that provides the internswith the opportunity to work on a research projectwith NED’s leading faculty and researchers in variousengineering research domains as well as social sciences.

ORIC seeks outstanding applications for the ResearchInternship Program in early start of the semester. Thestudent’s research interests and competencies arematched with the faculty’s research internee need. Theprogram is for a 100 day long period by the end ofwhich ORIC Research Internship experience certificateis awarded to the accomplished internees as well asthe supervisors.

10.12 DIRECTORATE OF UNIVERSITY ADVANCEMENT& FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

Directorate of University Advancement & FinancialAssistance was established at NED University ofEngineering & Technology in May 2013. ThisDirectorate is housed in Admissions Office Building.The basic objectives of establishing this Directoratewere to: Achieve financial stability through fund raising Strengthen University Advancement Programme Strengthen the quality of academic programme Increase and enhance the visibility and awareness

of the University to the community at large andto all stakeholders

In addition to above, the UA & FA seeks to help thestudents, faculty, staff, alumni and friends of theUniversity to have pride and satisfaction in havingconnections to the University – today, tomorrowand in fact for lifetime.

10.13 MEDICAL DEPARTMENTMedical Department is located next to HumanitiesDepartment of this University and is administered byPrincipal Medical Officer, accompained by two SeniorMedical Officers and One Lady Medical Officer, all areposted at main Campus. One male and two femalenurses are also present in Main Campus.

Medical Sub Centre is located at each LEJ and CityCampus, dispenser is available at LEJ while FemaleNurse at City Campus.

There are numerous diagnostic & therapeuticmodalities available free of charges for the studentsat the Main Campus. Emergency/routine OutpatientDepartment Service (OPD), Pathological, Radiologicaland Electrocardiographic facilities are also available.

Similarly therapeutic support in the form of Airway,Breathing and Circulatory (ABC) assistance areavailable. Besides that Outpatient facilities areavailable at peripheral Medical Sub-Centers, i.e.City and LEJ Campus. However, X-Ray, PathologicalLaboratory and Ambulance facility are restricted toMain Campus only.

10.14 STUDENT AFFAIRS DEPARTMENT

The Department of Student Affairs (DSA) is situatedat first floor of Students Facilitation Centre with theaim to facilitate the students throughout their stayat this academia through a wide range of activities,services and resources that are provided to studentsrelated with their academic, co-curricular andprofessional pursuits. DSA offers following servicesto the students: Provides scholarships to the deserving students

through private funded donors, govt., etc asmentioned in Chapter 9.

There are eight student societies working underthis department which organizes numerousactivities and events as mentioned in chapter 11.

Organizes various sports activities as mentionedat 10.15.4.

Students are facilitated with bus passes onnominal charges as well as with concession ontravelling fare for train and plane.

Nine Canteens, six Photostat shops and onestationary shop are functioning under thesupervision of this department to provide hygienicand quality food, photocopies and generalstationary items on reasonable rates.

Girls Common Room facilities (GCR) aremaintained and furnished with necessary comfortfor female students.

DSA issues Clearance Certificate to outgoingstudents, and also facilitates the students byattesting academic documents of the studentsfor PEC Registration and Higher Studies.

10.15 OTHER STUDENTS FACILITIES

10.15.1 Duty Society

The Society gives interest free loans to the studentsin need of financial help. The terms of such loansand application forms may be obtained from theSecretary of the Society.

10.15.2 Plain Paper Copiers

Copies of documents can be obtained from PPC atnominal cost.

10.15.3Stationary Shop

There is a University General Store on the Campus formeeting the general stationary requirements of thestudents. It works on a no-profit basis and is managedby a committee of members from the teaching staff.

10.15.4Sports Facilities

Sports Section was established at NED University in1978, that is functioning under the Control ofStudents’ Affairs Department. The facilities providedby the section are:

Boys Gymnasium Girls Gymnasium

Squash Complex Two Out Door Basketball Courts One Tennis Court Cricket Ground with Turf Wicket Football Ground Boys Fitness Centre.

The Sports Section also organizes NED InterdepartmentalGames and Inter Faculty Games every year for the Studentof NED University, while, NED University teams participatein Intervarsity Championships that are scheduled underauspices of Higher Education Commission, Islamabad i.e.(Badminton, Basketball, Cricket, Table Tennis, Football,Vollyeball, Squash & etc).

10.15.5Hostel Facilities

The University has two residential Hostels for boyssituated adjacent to the Main Campus named:Muhammad Bin Qasim Hostel I & II and one Hostelfor girls situated adjacent to the Staff Colony in MainCampus with the capacity of 35 Dormitory roomsand 20 cubicle rooms in MBQ-I Hostel and 72Dormitory rooms and 48 Cubicle rooms in MQB-IIHostel whereas 20 dormitory rooms are in Girls Hostel.The hostel has the following common facilities:Common Room, Prayer Hall, Warden’s Office. Theaccommodation in the residential Hostels is mainlyfor non-residents of Karachi and is allocated on firstcome-first-serve basis. Fresh entrant foraccommodation in the Hostel is required to applyonline submission of application for Hostel admissionis NOT Guarantee for allotment in the Hostel. Residentstudents are required to comply with all conditionsof residence as prescribed by the University.

10.15.6Boys’ Common Room

The Boys’ Common Room is provided with thefacilities of indoor games, telephone and necessaryreading material.

10.15.7Girls’ Common Room

A Girls’ Common Room is also available. It is properlyfurnished with necessary comforts such as attachedbath / powder room. A maid servant is also providedto the girls’ common room.

10.14.8Transport

Shuttle Bus transport may be provided by theUniversity from convenient points. The places andcharges are determined by the University andnotified as such.
