DESCRIPTION

Lightening from London CloudCamp that suggests cloud adoption is not that far off, even for the bank and that by mapping your business to discrete capabilities you can decide what you want to keep and what you want to let go and start to unbundle the bank!

for that matter

Page 6: Unbundling the Bank

Oh no! We live in a …multi-sourced

Software + Service (Hybrid Cloud) World and we didn’t know it!

Page 7: Unbundling the Bank

But hold isn’t SOA dead? Didn’t SOA fail

to deliver a ROI?

Page 8: Unbundling the Bank

Anyway we’re too silo’d and project and opportunity driven to consider adding cloud

to the mix!

But the problem isn’t with SOA it’s with the

SOA Junkies

Page 9: Unbundling the Bank

They think too much like Adam Smith with his division of labour and Henry Ford with his assembly line!

They’re too Task oriented

Page 10: Unbundling the Bank

They think of Separation of

Concerns, abstractions, and ah … yes Re-Use, the

holy grail of Re-use!

Page 11: Unbundling the Bank

How many times have we tried to deliver the “Single view of the

Customer?”

Page 12: Unbundling the Bank

These approaches breed complexity and

like the forth bridge, never end, adding little

if any business value

Page 13: Unbundling the Bank

The problem is the approach is based on

technology principles

instead of the principles of

business!

Page 14: Unbundling the Bank

We need to look above the “HOW we do it”.

Above the layers of people, process and

technology

Page 15: Unbundling the Bank

And at the “WHAT we do” – the Business Capabilities. These

are stable, self-contained,

measurable and value-oriented

Page 16: Unbundling the Bank

So let’s step back and ask what is the

Enterprise?

Enterprise Capability Heat Maps tell you

what’s important and if it’s healthy or not

Page 21: Unbundling the Bank

Capabilities allow you to decompose the

enterprise into discrete self contained

units of specialisation

Page 22: Unbundling the Bank

In this way you can unlock a new strategy. One that is

Service Centric

Page 23: Unbundling the Bank

And take advantage of the

multi-sourced Software + Service

(Hybrid Cloud) we live in.

Page 24: Unbundling the Bank

Don’t believe me? Well Just ask the banks …
