Introduction

What is the Gospel?

The Testimony of Jesus Christ?

Three key aspects to the gospel/salvation

Saved from the penalty of sin – Justification (Rom. 8:1)

Saved from the power of sin – Sanctification (Rom. 6:6, 11, 13)

Saved from the presence of sin – Glorification (Rom. 8:18-23)

Each of these aspects of salvation displays the power of God in a Christian’s life when they place their confidence in Christ as the object of their faith.

Paul’s life was evidence that he lived unashamed of the gospel.

Before writing his epistle to the Romans, there were several events in Paul’s life where he could’ve given up and walked away from the gospel, but he chose not to.

He was stoned in Galatia (Acts 14:19)

Imprisoned in Philippi (Acts 16:23, 24)

Chased out of Thessalonica (Acts 17:10)

Smuggled out of Berea (Acts 17:14)

Laughed at in Athens (Acts 17:32)

Regarded as a fool in Corinth (1 Cor. 1:18, 23)

Paul’s belief in the gospel empowered him to preach it with boldness (2 Cor. 3:12; Eph. 6:19; Phil. 1:20).

Paul encouraged others to live unashamed of the gospel (2 Tim. 1:8, 12, 16).

How can we daily live a life that is unashamed of the gospel?

Be empowered by the gospel (1 Thess. 1:5)

Participate in the spreading of the gospel (Phil. 1:5)

Demonstrate the gospel with your life (Phil. 1:27)

Defend the gospel (Jude 3)

Guard the gospel (Gal. 1:6-8)

Don’t hinder the gospel (1 Cor. 9:16)

Proclaim the gospel (Acts 28:31; Rom. 10:14, 15)

Be willing to suffer for the gospel (2 Tim. 1:8)

Conclusion – We have the same thing that allowed Paul to be unashamed, we have the Holy Spirit living inside of us. He is the one who gives us the strength that we need to live unashamed every single day (1 Cor. 3:16). Not only that, but He is the guarantee of our own salvation (Eph. 1:13, 14).
