ISER Performing Ensemble Once again in 2016 we are fortunate to be hosting the ISER Performing Ensemble. This travelling ensemble provides students of our school with the opportunity to see highly talented instrumentalists, vocalists and dancers from within Public Education system showcasing their talents and presenting music and performance pieces that span an impressive range of genres and styles. The cost for this production covers expenses incurred with touring the show. It represents great value for money and personally, I consider it one of the highlights of the year here at Unanderra Public School. It’s not to be missed! Welcome back to school for Term 3. Have a great week,

Gavin Hoy Relieving Principal

Welcome to Term 3, everyone. This is a very exciting term for the

iLibrary as we will be conducting lots of library activities to help celebrate Book Week and quality Australian children's literature. Students will be participating each week in lessons focusing on one of the shortlisted books while Dapto Library will be coming to UPS in Week 5 to help us get in the mood for Book Week. We will top this off on Tuesday the 23

rd of

August in Week 6 with the traditional Book Week Book Parade. So get your thinking caps on for character costumes. Remember your child can always borrow a book from our school library to hold as they walk in the parade.

On that note, just a reminder of class library borrowing days:

Monday - 1/2D, 1/2H, 4/5A, 5/6M

Tuesday - 5/6B, 5/6N

Wednesday - KW, 1/2J, 3/4G

Thursday - KD, KM, 3/4M, 3/4S,

Friday - 1/2M, 1/2E

Happy reading.

Welcome back to Term 3. Hope everyone enjoyed the holidays.

P&C Meeting: Our next P & C meeting will be held on Monday 1st

August at 7pm, in the staffroom. If you would

like to hear more about what’s happening in the school, present ideas, share opinions, vote on items raised and/or help out with or hear about any of our events, please join us at this next meeting.

Upcoming events:

Spell-a-thon: Will commence next month with spelling word lists and sponsor forms going home on Monday 1st

August. Our Spell-a-thon written test will then be held on Thursday 18th

August to allow plenty of time for students to obtain their sponsors. This is always a great fundraising event that helps raise valuable funds for the school. Special prizes will be awarded to the top students who raise the most funds and also a class prize to the top junior and senior classes that raise the most funds.

Father’s Day Stall - Will be held on Thursday 1st

September with a great range of gifts available for $5 each. A

flyer will go home next month where we will also be seeking volunteers to help on the morning.

P & C Events – Village Fair: The Village Fair is scheduled for Friday 28th

October from 4pm to 8pm. Rides,

food, games and entertainment will all be included on the night. Our rides have been booked with Fosters Amusements and a variety of food options will be available for dinner. More information will be forthcoming when available. School Hats: School hats are available for purchase at the canteen for $11.

Welcome back to School Banking for Term 3! There are two new rewards to choose from, and the Commonwealth Bank (CBA) is running a competition for those who bank regularly. Read on for details… Firstly, congratulations to 4/5A, who were the weekly class winners in the last week of Term 2. Only 69 bankers made a deposit that week, so let’s see if we can improve on that, and be in the running for some great prizes! CBA is running an exciting competition during Term 3 with some great prizes to be won. To enter, students must make three (3) or more School Banking deposits during this term. Prizes up for grabs include camping kits, instant cameras and

magazine packs. In addition, those who also complete the online Stargazing activity go into a separate draw to win one of 50 Playstation 4 packs. Students can complete the Stargazing online activity at any time during Term 3 at commbank.com.au/prizelights. This term, the two new rewards that are available are the Jump and Skip Rope, and the Backtrack Eraser Pen. As stated in previous newsletters, the Mudsplat Handball and Flying Snake Tail are now out of stock. Available rewards include the Wildlife Writer Set, Outback Pat Bag Tag, Galaxy Glider (2015), Outer Space Saver Money Box (2015), Intergalactic Rocket (2015), and ET DVD (2015). Now there are lots more reasons to save regularly, so keep those deposits coming in. Happy saving! Thank you for your continued support. School banking coordinators and volunteers, Elizabeth Ilievski, Jenny Evans, Anne Davies and Nicole Martin

Recently, there have been a few reported cases of head lice within our school. People get head lice from hair to hair contact with someone else who has head lice. Having head lice is no indicator of hygiene; head lice do not care whether your hair is dirty or clean. Please check your child’s head for head lice to ensure they have not been exposed to head lice recently. If you find head lice, please treat them effectively by following the instructions from NSW Health found at the website below:

http://www.health.nsw.gov.au/environment/headlice/Pages/treatment.aspx If you have no access to the Internet please ask your local pharmacy for advice. It is generally necessary in the treatment of head lice to re-apply the treatment one week after the initially treatment.
