Background Information (cont.)Pollution Sources

Nearly 35% of people living in India own some form of two-wheeled vehicle. With a population of 1.2 billion, that puts the number of gas-powered vehicles on the road at 720 million.Pollution Sources (cont.)

The roads in New Delhi are one of the leading causes of air pollution. The small size of roads creates traffic gridlocks, which lead to massive amounts of fuel being burned.Pollution Statistics

According to the National Ambient Air Quality Standards, the maximum safe level of CO is 9.New Delhi has a CO level of 50.Current Solutionary Programs

One of the current programs in use attempts to change oil combustion engines in vehicles to engines that use natural gas. However, the CNG program is not large enough to make any significant change.Proposed Solutions

Fuel sources like ethanol are more expensive than gas. Despite higher initial fuel prices, the resulting increased flow of money through the economy would be ultimately beneficial.Proposal Requirements

In order to implement a system of natural gas buses, India needs assistance both monetarily and in terms of city planning. The driving population must be reduced by 50% to significantly impact pollution. Proposal Requirements (cont.)

City planners can create flows of traffic to help disperse traffic locks. The CNG plan in place must be funded additionally to eliminate 50% of private vehicles on the road. Conclusion

To solve the pollution crisis in India, we need help from the UN in order to help plan an efficient natural-gas based transport system and decrease the amount of private vehicles on the road by 50%.
