Executive SummarySneak Peaks...Welcome to another addition of Building Together. Progress onsite has continued and we have reached some exciting milestones!

On the exterior of the building, siding installation is progressing around the building and adding some great color to façade. The siding and a metal cap at the roof are the last remaining items on the building envelope, a term we use to describe the parts of the building that keep the water and weather out. Work is also starting in the courtyard, which will become a real focal point for residents and guests.

Inside the building, there is a combination of four major trades working in different areas of the building. Crews from ACP, Inc. are finishing up the final sections of drywall and drywall finishing. BC

Contracting is moving quickly through the building with primer and paint. CIR, our flooring contractor is busy working on the tile showers in each resident room. Last but not least, carpenters from Elzinga & Volkers and Peter Building are installing doors, door hardware and wall protection.

One of the most exciting additions to the project has been the completion of our model room. The model is currently being used to pre-sell units in the building. It is exciting for the team to see a completed room and have a chance to, “work out any bugs” now before completing the other 65 rooms in the building.

Safety SpotlightSo we all enjoy listening to our favorite songs on the radio, and listening to our must watch television shows right? Quality ControlAs finish materials are entering the project area, protecting them becomes very important. We don’t build in time to repair damaged materials so the loss time of having to do work twice can be a killer. Crews use masonite boards, plastics and cardboard to protect surfaces during construction. Some materials, such as our custom carpeting in the corridors, will not be installed until the last possible minute to avoid any unnecessary foot traffic.

In this issue, we would like to thank Kril Enterprises. Kril has been our partner on the roofing and siding work and their teams have done a fantastic job staying on schedule, despite some rough weather. Soon, Kril will be one of the first contractors to be 100% complete with their work. Thank you for all your hard work on the project!

Two Week Look AheadIn upcoming weeks the interior of the addition will continue to evolve into a finished product. In Quadrant #4 wall protection will be installed in the corridor. Wall protection is the beginning of a sequence of finishes to be installed in the corridor. Once the wall protection is installed wall covering will follow along with corner guards and handrail. Proper sequencing allows trades to work in the most efficient manner possible and results in the highest quality for finish details. In resident rooms “floor prep” will be set in preparation for the installation sheet vinyl flooring. Floor prep fills in small voids and any imperfections in the concrete slab and will insure a smooth level surface for the flooring to be installed on. Quadrants #2 and #3 are following the steps of Quadrant #4 with paint, shower tile and wall protection. Quadrant #1 continues to play catch-up as wall board will be finished, sanded and painted in the next two weeks. The timing should work out perfectly in order for finishes to be installed when Quadrant #2 is complete.
