    Introduction

"The cheerleaders are heroes in their ability to make peopleexcited,"

In America, cheer leading is often described as a sport in its ownright with serious national competitions to choose the best teams.Cheer leading includes elements of tumbling, dance, jumps and

stunts and was originally intended to encourage the crowd tosupport and cheer on their own team..

Cheer leading originated at the University of Minnesota around1898 when a student, Johnny Campbell, directed a crowd to cheerThis developed into a yell leader squad of 6 male students.

By 1923 women began to get involved too, partly due to the

relative lack of college sports for girls. Megaphones and gymnasticswere added around this time and today around 97% ofcheerleaders are female although there is a much high proportionof men involved at college level.

During the 1960s National Football League (NFL) teams began tointroduce cheerleaders. The first being the Baltimore Colts.

Meanwhile, traditional cheer leading began to incorporate morecomplex moves and stunts and the National High School Cheerleading Competition was first televised nationwide in 1983.

Today, cheer leading is most closely associated with American

football and basketball. Major League Baseball first includedcheerleaders in 2003 while the ICC Twenty20 Cricket World Cupheld in South Africa in 2007, were the first international crickettournament to have cheerleaders.

    Responsibilities a Cheerleader

-What is a charm in becoming a cheerleader?

    Or

    -having date with football players.

    -Minis mania.

Cheerleading comes with many responsibilities and if you're not

ready to make a commitment to it you shouldn't even waste yourtime trying out. Let's take a look at just a few of theresponsibilities that come with being a Cheerleader:

y Time: - As a Cheerleader you can plan on spending manyhours practicing. Add in the hours you'll needfor fundraising, pep rallies,(energy and high sprite(informal)) competitions

and performances and it's easy to see this sport is very timeconsuming.y Financial: - Uniforms, shoes, accessories and camps/clinics al

cost money. Some costs may be offset by fundraisers, but

  • 8/8/2019 Umesh Summer Project Report

    7/23

    Cheerleaders v/s cricket

    vii

chances are you'll be asked to invest part of the costs involved

in cheering.y Work: - Cheerleading is as much mental as it is physical. It

will not only place many demands on your body, but it willchange your way of thinking too. You will be a part of agroup that will strive to think and act as one. You will learnto think about the team first and base your decisions on whatis best for everyone. Your squad will become your second

family. Although you may disagree, there will be times you'lhave to compromise.

It's not hard to see that Cheerleading is more than yelling on thesidelines and shaking your pomes.(pride) It's a commitment, adedication, and an attitude. It will change your life in manyways and anyone that has ever been a Cheerleader can attest to

the fact that it's worth it.

Attest-to declares that something is true or genuine.

    Cheerleaders formulates cricket more enjoyable

Cricket in the subcontinent took a real fancy to cheerleaders with

the start of the Indian Cricket League and Indian Premier League

where foreign dancerstern round and round to the tunes of

    Bollywood hits.

In contrast to the cricket image of polite audience sipping(to drink in

small amount at a time) tea while politely clapped their team, now

scantily-clad dancers tern round n round to Bollywood or

Western-style dance music loudly out from loudspeakersin stadia.

While many think cheerleading makes cricket moreenjoyable -

addingalot of glamourandexcitementto the game, others

strongly dislikethe very idea of cheerleadingduring cricket

    matches.

People find nothing wrong withthe conceptifitis just foradding

entertainmentelementto the game. Ithasto be presentedin the

right manner. An efforthas been madeto promote our culture by

bringing folkdancersand musiciansin these matchesas wehave

so muchvariety in our cultureanddressesthataftersome point of

time foreign countries willstart copy us.

Therehas been plenty ofaction andentertainment. Therehas

been passion and commitment from the players, the crickethas

    been competitive, andthestandshave been full.

    Action against cheerleaders

Governmentsaid "strictaction" would betaken ifthecheerleadershadviolatedthe norms ofdecency in theirdress. When foreign dancersareallowedto perform in India, government givesthem work permitand performancelicensetothe organizers withthe condition thatitshould not bevulgar orobscene. Ifthis condition isviolated, then the government would

He, however, did notspecify whataction andagainst whomwhetherthe cheerleaders orthe organizers--would betaken.Earlier, the governmentdescribedthe cheerleadersandtheirdancingattheIndian Premier League (IPL) matchesas"absolutely obscene".Hesaid "welivein India where womanhoodis worshipped. Howcan anything obscenelikethis can beallowed. The minister wondered why the organizersrequire `semi-nude'women to entertain peopleat cricket matches. mix-up answerabout cheerleadersomeonesay thatthereis noneed cheerleaderin the cricket because weareliving with our

family and we watch cricket with our family and when

cheerleadersare come on stagein semi-nudedressthen weare

    Suggestive Measures

In the presentage cheerleadersisan important part ofthe

cricket. Its make cricket moreinterestingand joyful. In the

    cricket match cheerleaderarelookingin semi-nude orthey

are wearingsemi-nudedressthisis not good for our culture.

Indiaisa cultural country andevery age of person watch

cricket withhis family. So organizer who is organized cheerleaders fordance,

they must berememberitthat cheerleader must bein proper

dress up andtheirdress notshowing valgure, becausetoday

people watch cricket withtheir mother, sister, fatherandalso

their children. Itisshow very badeffect on his behavior.

Ithink cricketdoes not needany cheerleader because player

motivateto the crowd when they stand up and clapped on

every shot when they hit four orsix .

In thistimeIPL 2 is going on in the South-Africaand

thereis no limitation in the cheerleaderdress butin theIndia

when cheerleader comes on thestagethey motivateto player

    within thelimitand under our culture.

Cheerleader worksisencouragedand motivatethe playerandentertainmenttheaudience notto damage our culture. So

    organizershouldhave organizeditin right manner.
