COMMITMENT WEEKEND

Can you take a STEP UP in your giving? “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” Lk 12:34 Lumen Christi Parish is, indeed, a treasure. Our humble servant leaders, Fr. Dan and Fr. Matthew, and committed staff and ministers collectively offer countless gifts to each of us individually and to the greater community. For a moment, consider all the sacraments and spiritual guidance we receive, the formation offered and outreach provided by these committed disciples as they strive to spread God’s Word. We have been abundantly blessed! No one likes to talk about money at Church. No one. But it is a reality that must be addressed. Lumen Christi Parish does not receive any direct financial support from the Archdiocese. Accordingly, all our parish bills, whether fixed or discretionary, from utilities to payroll to outreach and more, are paid with the funds received through your regular Envelope and Offertory giving. Your dollars are spent wisely and frugally. Planning and budgeting through thoughtful discernment is done with every dollar by the priests and staff with oversight by a parishioner-led Finance Council. As expected, our operating and payroll costs continue to rise. Our operating budget for the current fiscal year ending June 30, 2019 is over $4.1 million. You may not know but only 4.5% of these local dollars are sent to the Archdiocese. It is a myth that our locally donated dollars are used to pay other diocesan costs. As our local Lumen Christi costs are increasing, we need to ask you to consider “stepping up” your regular Envelope and Offertory giving as outlined below. If you currently do not financially support Lumen Christi, we ask that you consider doing so in recognition of the abundance of gifts and good works offered by the parish. We are each in different places along these financial offering steps. We recognize that not everyone can afford to move up but please pray about your weekly offering and consider moving up a step to help the parish cover its rising costs and continue it’s mission to proclaim the Word, celebrate the liturgy and sacraments, and serve the community. Don’t forget that automatic ACH debits or credit card contributions can be easily set up through the Parish Office and website and are an efficient way to make your regular offering. Thank you in advance for your generous support. 2019 parish commitment cards have been mailed to each household and can be found in the pews this weekend. Your offertory giving is immensely appreciated. If you have any questions, myself or Jane Bartlett, Director of Finance, would be happy to communicate with you personally. Respectfully submitted, Bruce Arensmeier, Finance Council Member

STEWARDSHIP OF TREASURE FISCAL 2019 YEAR-TO-DATE REPORT

The following is a summary of Lumen Christi’s Fiscal Year to Date Envelope and Offertory Contributions July 1st through October 31, 2018 as compared to the budget:

Budgeted Envelopes and Offertory Fiscal 2019 $ 697,000 Actual Envelopes and Offertory Fiscal 2019 $ 663,600

Amount over (under) budget $ (33,400)

November 11, 2018 32nd Sunday in Ordinary Time

“I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all the other contributors to the treasury. For they all contributed out of their abundance; but she out of her

poverty has put in everything she had, her whole living.” MARK 12:43-44 Jesus gets right to the point – we are all called to give money to support the mission of the Church, regardless of our circumstance. No gift is too small or insignificant! Giving money to support the mission of our local parish is a matter of our faith, just like praying and participating in parish ministries. When you make a financial offering, is it from your “first fruits” or from what is “left over”?

The following individual recently received the Sacrament of Baptism.

OPEN FORUM at Lumen Christi with Fr Dan

Thursday, November 15, 2018 7:00 pm

St James Hall

An Open Forum, an opportunity to talk about our fears, angers, hurts, anxieties, frustrations with what is going on in our Catholic Church. I will host and moderate an open discussion with all who desire to come. I will offer a listening ear and an open heart. My prayer is that this can be an opportunity for healing and reconciliation, knowing that each human being is heard and honored. Fr Dan

PASSION PLAY IN OBERAMMERGAU, GERMANY It’s time for the opportunity that only comes once

every 10 years!

Join your fellow Lumen Christi Parishioners on a trip, June 10-22, 2010 featuring the 42nd world famous Passion Play in Oberammergau Germany. The history of the Passion Play dates back to 1633. In the middle of the Thirty Years War, after months of suffering and death from the plague, the Oberammergau villagers swore an oath that they would perform the "Play of the Suffering, Death and Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ" every ten years. Every ten years since then, the villagers fulfill their promise to God. Marianne Nass & Joerg Kramer from Value Holidays, Mequon will offer an informational evening, Thursday, November 15, 6:00 pm in the St Elizabeth Room.

FINDING YOUR BURIED TREASURE: DISCOVERING YOUR SPIRITUAL GIFTS WORKSHOP

Saturday, November 17 from 8:30-11:45 am, St Cecilia Hall

God is calling you to a unique purpose in life, a work of love that only you can do. You have received gifts from the Holy Spirit through your Baptism and Confirmation. These gifts show the way God intends His love to reach others through you! Join us for a workshop: Finding Your Buried Treasure: Discovering Your Spiritual Gifts. It is meant to help you understand and discern your God-given gifts or charisms. Charisms, or spiritual gifts, are special abilities given to each Christian by the Holy Spirit to enable them to be powerful channels of God’s love and redeeming presence in the world. They are to be used in charity to build up the Church. When we allow the Holy Spirit to work through our charisms, we discover a sense of joy and peace as we live according to our Divine purpose. Learn about 26 of the most common charisms.

Complete the Catholic Spiritual Gifts Inventory.

Identify which charisms you may have.

Explore ways to begin experimenting with your charisms to gain greater clarity in your discernment process.

If you are interested in participating in this workshop RSVP to Bob Pauly at [email protected] or 262-512-8994 by Wednesday, November 14.

COMPANIONS ON THE MYSTICAL JOURNEY God’s mystical ways of communicating with each one of us are as countless as the stars! You are invited to join with other Companions on the Mystical Journey as we explore and share our unique spiritual experiences and insights on the way home to our Loving God. It may come from within ourselves in the form of dreams, visions, insights, messages, prophesies, and mystical experiences. It may come from outside ourselves in the form of personal life experiences, literature, poetry, art, music, scripture, structured journal entries, nature, Catholic mystics or any other means of God’s Self-Revelation. We will write about our spiritual experiences in personal journals. We will share our sacred stories and the lessons of God’s Love with our spiritual companions. We will compassionately listen to one another, provide loving support and offer guidance and feedback if it is welcome. Companions on the Mystical Journey will meet on Friday mornings, after the 8:30 am Mass in the Chapel. If interested, contact Bob Pauly at [email protected] or 262-512-8994.

PASTORAL STAFF

The Daily Examen is a prayer of reflection and commitment through which St Ignatius Loyola endeavored to recognize God in his daily life. Christians in the Jesuit tradition continue this daily practice to develop a growing awareness of God’s grace and to access the power of the Holy Spirit to change their lives. It is simple and beautiful. Perhaps you might find it a helpful spiritual tool on your journey Home:

My Daily Examen

God, I believe that at this quiet moment I am in Your

presence and You are now loving me. Come Holy Spirit.

God, I acknowledge Your Love for me in the various gifts for which I am very grateful. Thanks be to God.

God, help me now to review the events of this day in order to recognize You in all parts of my life. Lord, I want to see.

God, please forgive the times I have fallen short, and strengthen my attempts to follow You. Lord have mercy.

God, enlighten me so that my future choices praise, reverence, and serve You above all else. Show me Your way.

Conclude with an Our Father.

“Pray for me, as I will for thee, until we merrily meet in Heaven.” St Thomas More
