The challenges involved in maximum powerextraction suggests that direct drivegenerators could be a viable alternative tothe more used hydraulic systems.

Reciprocating Linear Alternators have beenproposed as a suitable power take-off systemfor a straightforward applicability to sometype of WECs such as Attenuators, OWSCsand Point Absorbers.

R&D BACKGROUNDConcept

Garcia-Rosa, P. V. S. Cunha, Lizarralde “Efficiency Optimization in a Wave Energy Hyperbaric Converter”.

EMGs drastically shorten the conversion chain between the prime mover and the grid: the introduction of the ballscrew in the

system allow to pass directly from a reciprocating linear motion into an rotary electrical generator.

Advantages are the complexity reduction and overall reliability increase.
