JULY 30, 2017

Dear brothers and sisters,

We are in a society that lives on

insurance. People insure themselves

against everything. There is even

insurance against bad weather during

vacations. The Kingdom of Heaven

is life insurance against death.

"Whoever believes in me, even

though he die, shall live," said Jesus.

The sacrifice of Christ made that

assurance possible, yet just like any

protection policy there is a cost, a

premium. That premium is our faith

and love for God. The question is:

are we ready to “sell everything,”

make the sacrifices necessary to

obtain this eternal life insurance?

The kingdom of God is like a buried

treasure. The cost of discipleship is

everything. We may not have much

but we do have what is needed. As

the first commandment reminds us:

"You shall love the Lord your God

with all your heart, with all your

soul, with all your strength, and with

all your mind." Are we covered?

We can see in this parable a

warning that is addressed to those

who sell their faith and taking it for

granted, not seeing the value in

them. We pray for the grace to see

the treasure we have in Christ (the

pearl of great price) and to have the

strength and joy to “sell” everything

else. Have a blessed week.

Queridos hermanos y hermanas,

Estamos en una sociedad que vive de seguros. La

gente se asegura contra todo. Incluso hay un seguro contra

el mal tiempo durante las vacaciones. El Reino de los

Cielos es un seguro de vida contra la muerte. "El que cree

en mí, aunque muera, vivirá", dijo Jesús. El sacrificio de

Cristo hizo posible esa seguridad, pero al igual que

cualquier política de protección hay un costo, una prima.

Ese premio es nuestra fe y amor a Dios. La pregunta es:

¿estamos listos para "vender todo", hacer los sacrificios

necesarios para obtener este seguro de vida eterna? El

reino de Dios es como un tesoro enterrado. El costo del

discipulado es todo. Puede que no tengamos mucho, pero

tenemos lo que se necesita. Como el primer mandamiento

nos recuerda: "Amarás al Señor tu Dios con todo tu

corazón, con toda tu alma, con todas tus fuerzas y con toda

tu mente". ¿Estamos cubiertos?

Podemos ver en esta parábola una advertencia dirigida

a aquellos que venden su fe y la dan por sentada, sin ver el

valor en ellos. Oramos por la gracia de ver el tesoro que

tenemos en Cristo (la perla de gran precio) y tener la fuerza

y la alegría de "vender" todo lo demás. Que pasen una

semana bendita.
