Dear Parents and Carers,

Thank you to all the parents who notify the school when their

child is away. Please remember that shopping is not a valid

excuse for absence.

The school rolled over to the new LMBR management system

on Monday. As one would expect in such a large system there

have been a number of components that we are trying to

organise. Please be patient with us as we learn the new

system. You may have noticed that most administration staff

now have two computer screens on their desk, this is to

support them in the new process. We can run the information

guide on one screen whilst we carry out the task on the other.

It won’t be long before we will be operating smoothly.

With the rollover into LMBR a lot of the information the

school has collected is being entered meaning parents will not

receive ongoing notes for photo permission, scripture etc. The

information we have now is what will be entered as current. If

your circumstances change then you will need to let the

school know so we can update your information. This will not

only save paper and time but should allow us to use the roll

facility on LMBR.

If your details such as phone contacts or address changes

please let the school know immediately.

Just a reminder to parents, if you have younger students, K-2

who are not travelling home by their usual means, please let

the school know by note or phone as we, like you, don’t want

students to go missing.

If you are busy and need someone to collect your child who is

not listed as an emergency contact we need to know about

this. This may seem trivial but we don’t know if the person is

genuine and some families have issues with access and we

need to support court arrangements. All we need is a note or

call stating the name of the person and we can check their

licence when they arrive.

Aboriginal students. Your child would have received a note in

relation to a visit by the AMS. If you want your child to attend

the note is due back by this Friday as I will ring and organise

times for the number of replies we have received.

The school has purchased a 3D printer and staff are learning

how the printer works and how it can be used to enhance the

Design and Technology component of the curriculum. We will

then look at setting real life learning tasks for students to

design and then have the printer make their design.

Congratulations to the dancers who went to the Eisteddfod

last week The Junior & Senior Troupe achieved second place,

an amazing effort from the students and Miss Newman. You

can all be so proud of yourselves. Thank you Miss Newman.

Our choir will perform on Thursday. Good Luck! Villiami and

Miss Saddler will be accompanying the choir.

Regards

CANTEEN NEWS

The supervisors Jen & Mel, and all the volunteers are doing a

wonderful job in the canteen. Thank you for all your help!!

All the hot food such as Spaghetti Bolognaise, Lasagne, Mac

and Cheese, Garlic Bread etc are baked in the canteen every

morning. They are delicious, so if you don’t have any time in

the morning to make lunches for your kids get them a lunch

order. The price for the baked food is $3.50 and your

children will be full once they’ve finished it all.

Jen & Mel went along to a canteen networking meeting last

Wednesday and were given information about the changes

to what food is served in the canteen. This is to ensure our

children are served healthy, fresh food every day. There is

currently a rollout for all canteens to serve healthy food

only, this has to be completed by 2019 and will be a gradual

process. As more information becomes available, I will share

it on here for you.

A Healthy Tuckshop Day will be held on Wednesday 14th

June 2017 and the aim is to spread awareness of the Healthy

Tuckshop Movement. If you would like more information

about the Tuckshop Movement please go to

District Cross Country Success

Last Monday 59 competitors took to the track at Potato Point for the annual District Cross Country Carnival. For the

first time in many years, every student that attended completed the course. What an amazing achievement and a feat

of pure determination and perseverance. Congratulations!

Although we didn’t win the shield, several

students were very successful and the fol-

lowing 7 students will now attend Willan-

dra in Cambewarra on Friday 2nd June.

Seb D, Ella C, Olivia G, Rachael P, Sam D,

Lily W and Hailey B.

An enormous ‘thank you’ to the parents

and friends who came to support the

team!

DEBATING

2017 UPS Debating team consisting of (from the left):

Hannah M., Grace H., Isabella Y. and Lilly C., travelled to Sussex

Inlet on Wednesday. The girls have an hour on their own to

prepare their speeches.

The first debate was “That We Should Ban Homework in all

Schools”. UPS was the negative and came up with some great

ideas. Although, the debate was very close, UPS was narrowly

defeated.

The second debate was “That Fast Food Outlets such as

McDonalds and KFC should be banned in Australia”. UPS was

the Affirmative. Unfortunately, UPS lost this debate.

Our next debates will be held in Batemans Bay next term.

Congratulations, girls. You looked great in your uniforms with

the school blazers and you behaved beautifully.

Sports Update

In the past few weeks we have had many students trial for the South Coast

Teams in a plethora of different sports.

Touch Football- Lily W, Olivia G, Neeve L, Sam D, Bryce S and Koby L. Each of

these players represented our school but narrowly missed out on selection to

the South Coast Team.

Cricket- Ryan G, Bryce S and Ben C. Best of luck to these students in the trials

this Friday.

AFL- Ben C. Congratulations to Ben who was initially a reserve in the South

Coast Team. He has been called up and represented the school in competition

Week 5.

Dance troupe—Shoalhaven Eisteddfod

Congratulations to both our dance troupes for their outstanding performances at the Nowra School of

Arts on Friday 19th May. The Infants Troupe and the Senior Troupe both came away with 2nd place in

their respective categories. Thanks go to all the dancers and Miss Newman for all the time, energy and

enthusiasm you put in to producing such polished performances and representing our school so

beautifully.

Worried? Sad? Hurt? Upset? Tips that could help... Children and young people have access to lots of social media, TV, movies and games. While the wonderful array of con-tent available offers many positive learning opportunities, there is some content that may have potentially harmful effects on young people. Keeping an eye on what media children and young people are accessing, and any changes in their behaviour, is a good way to help avoid any long-term worries down the track. Kids Helpline (KHL) has put together Tip Sheets that suggest ways to help manage worry and concerns some may experi-ence due to exposure to some media content. The three sheets are audience specific for:

children

teenagers and young adults, and

teachers and parents. They include tips about managing individual worries and about how to help others. We encourage you to distribute these to children, young people, teachers and parents who might find these helpful. KHL is Australia's only free, private and confidential 24/7 phone and online counselling service for young people aged 5 to 25. Talking with KHL can help. We're here 24/7. Any time. Any reason. Free call 1800 55 1800 or www.kidshelpline.com.au
