Advanced TechnologyAdding efficiency and control to the process chain

Sophisticated — and simplified compounding

At UL TTC, we offer the most advanced systems and processes in the testing business. Compounding, for example, features fully equipped production lines for the compounding of standard polymers and engineering thermoplastics in quan tities ranging from 1.3 to 100 kilograms. With this sophisticated system, you can send your plastics and additives to us and UL TTC will compound the granu les using kneading or twin-screw extrusion. In the case of large assignments, simply enter the compo sition of the material specimen to be tes ted into your computer and submit the formulation elec tro ni cally to us. Using your data, our LIMS will control the formulation of your components — that we have already stored at our facility — for use in making your plastic granules.

Our proprietary, intelligent LIMS software system accelerates the entire process chain from entering your order to receiving test results. LIMS:

Tracks the status of all of its assignments and manages its •working processes

Receives formulations and dispatches test results, which you •can view online the instant they are available

Since faster response time is always desirable, LIMS offers real time-and-cost-saving advantages.

UL TTC technology drives you to market sooner with:

Fully automated production lines•

Exclusive and intelligent LIMS software•

Electronic submission of assignments •and results retrieval

05

Automated production of test specimens

At UL TTC, fully automated injection molding machines process the granu les into test specimens. Approximately 100 different test specimen molds are available for almost all ISO, UL and CAMPUS® tests. The BMS Mold-Control (Datalogger) enables us to capture injec tion molding process data online and on a continuous basis. From standard test data such as this, the fundamental processing parameters of your plastic can be calculated, including injection pressure, gate sealing, plasticating capacity and solidification behavior. The Datalogger promotes consistent quality — not after the plastics have been processed, but during processing itself. The data gathered can be displayed graphically and statistically evaluated, and the system (which is avail able for purchase exclusively from UL TTC) can be coupled to any existing mold control system or specialized machinery.

Technology that adapts to your needs

If you wish to test a finished or semi-finished component, we can prepare test specimens for standards testing using a high-speed cutting machine. Or if you’re interested in the effect that a paint film will have upon a polymer, our automated injection molding equipment is able to produce optical-quality plastic plaques, which enable the appro priate tests for properties like weathering. At UL TTC, we adjust our technology systems to suit your testing objectives and needs.

Automation that allows consistency

The fact that automation has been consistently introduced in all possible areas at UL TTC means that tests are highly accurate and can be replicated. In the case of a tensile test, for example, robots always fix the test specimens in such a way that the forces being applied are precisely centered. Counting on 100% reliability in results — on a consistent basis — saves testing time, time and again.

A commitment to confidentiality

In accordance with our accreditation, our testing staff is bound to maintain confidentiality. It is not permissible for any information to be passed from one department to another at the Center or from one chemist to another. For this reason, even our Laboratory Information Manage ment System has been configured to prevent unauthorized access. We will sign any additional confidentiality agreements if you wish.

06

Unequalled CapacityFilling your need for one-stop testing

At UL TTC, capacity also means an enhanced ability to understand your specific challenges and opportunities. This information is gained as a result of long-term client/partner relationships that we believe in and work to establish.

07

Leading the industry in capacity with:

40 automated systems that enable UL TTC to control and •speed processes and allow us to handle sizeable and multiple projects at once

200 different standard tests on plastics, plus specialized tests •as needed

4,300 square meters of efficient industrial space devoted to •production of granules, test specimens, testing, consultation, and certification

No one else can match the vast knowledge-pool of competencies in thermoplastics testing that we have amassed over 60 years. Now, this pool has even greater depth with the addition of the vast capabilities of UL.

UL has developed more than 1,000 standards for safety and evaluates more than 19,000 types of products, components, materials and systems annually. The UL Mark appears on 72,000 manufacturer products each year and we can verify and certify the excellence of the one product that matters most — yours!

Count on testing variety

Standard tests for every major plastics application from •determining the melt flow index to impact tests

Specialized tests such as fuel resistance, tracking •(Comparative Tracking Index) or high speed tensile tests — and tests carried out by hand

Our physical /mechanical and rheological testing alone •consists of 30 different types of tests. Using state-of-the-art technology, our primary testing activities include electrical, optical, thermo-analysis, combustion, weathering, heat distortion temperature, chemical resistance and thermal aging resistance.

An overview of our testing services can be found in the back pocket of this brochure or at www.ULTTC.com.

Save through one-stop (and non-stop) service

Fulfilling all your testing needs in one location is more than a convenience. One-stop testing translates into savings with greater control over testing and approval from start to finish, reduced chances for errors that can arise with a change in testing facilities, and the possibility of costly rework. One-stop service keeps the momentum of testing going, which further accelerates your speed to market. Our one-stop service is also non-stop. We operate seven days a week, including holidays.

08

Uncompromising QualityBringing the reliability of our test data to everyday life

Our commitment to quality counts

What we do at UL TTC matters — to clients, to us, and to consumers who put the products and components we test here to real life tests every day. They want to trust the safety of the plastic lenses they put in their eyes or know that they can count on their car side panels to protect themselves or the people they love. This is where quality enters the picture and why we adhere to the strictest industry standards and constantly put our tests to the test.

* DAR Registration no: DAP-PL-3471.00

We adhere to the highest industry standards and constantly put our tests to the test.

One major plus we offer that other facilities do not is unification standardization and monitoring of injection molding. This stan-dardization of specimens for testing has a significant impact on the properties of materials and allows for a more reliable assessment of the material and its safety.

Special 17025 accreditation

UL TTC has earned special DAP accreditation and is authorized to carry out selected physical and technological tests on plastics in accordance with DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025. This is the first accreditation in Germany to include the compounding of thermoplastics and injection molding of test specimens.*

UL TTC and CAMPUS®

UL TTC is a founding member of the working party of CAMPUS (Computer Aided Material Preselection by Uniform Standards), the world’s most successful plastics database. More than 50 producers enter standard, definitive and comparative parameters for their own products in accord-ance with ISO 10350 and ISO 11403. UL’s participation allows customers to gain early knowledge of technical advances and amendments to standards.
