Exploring Historic AmesUnique Selections from the Farwell T. Brown Photographic ArchiveBeginning November 30 at Ames History Center, 416 Douglas Ave.Ames Historical Society's new exhibit features photos collected by Farwell Brown, Ames historian and founder of the historical society. The exhibit is presented in memory of long-time Ames Historical Society volunteer and Ames Public Librarian, Janet Klaas. Klaas worked for many years with Brown to organize, catalog, and index his photograph collection. She passed away in early 2018.Provided in partnership with Ames Public Library and Ames Historical Society.

Explore the history of the Black Lives Matter movement and its relationship to politics, activism and fashion through an exhibit created by Iowa State University students. Using historic and cultural methodologies, the exhibition highlights the different ways clothing, fashion, appearance, and styles have been an example of resistance, rebellion, and negotiations of Black politics historically and today.Provided in partnership with Ames Public Library and Iowa State University College of Human Sciences Department of Apparel, Events, & Hospitality Management.

Reel Connections on the Environment The Light Bulb ConspiracyTuesday, December 11 at 6:30pm, AuditoriumThis documentary uncovers how planned obsolescence has shaped our lives and economy since the 1920s when manufacturers deliberately started shortening the life of consumer products to increase demand.

The film also looks at modern examples and profiles a new generation of consumers, designers, and business people who have started challenging the concept as an unsustainable economic driver. Join us for the 128 minute documentary, popcorn, and a short follow-up discussion. Supported by the Ames Public Library Friends Foundation.
