WHY GEORGIA LAW?
The University of Georgia LL.M. Program offers highly qualified
graduates of foreign law schools an individually fashioned program of
course work in U.S. law at one of the nation's most highly regarded law
schools. The LL.M. degree is awarded upon the successful completion
of 24 hours of course credit during an academic year.
Candidates may choose the All-Courses track or the Essay track.
The All-Courses track allows students to select courses specific to their
interests from the School of Law’s extensive curriculum. Students who
opt for the Essay track will also write a scholarly paper 60-90 pages
in length for six credits under the supervision of a full-time member
of the accomplished faculty. Students in both tracks have the option to
work with the Director to select courses that ensure eligibility for the
New York Bar Examination.
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Flexible Curriculum
Georgia Law’s LL.M. Program is distinguished by the flexible approach offered in determining an individual program for each student. Students take 10 to 14 course credit hours each semester. All LL.M. students take a special course on legal research and writing in U.S. law. For all other courses, LL.M. students enroll in the same classes available to J.D. students.
Employment and Training Opportunities
The School of Law’s Office of Legal Career Services assists LL.M. students in their employment search. Georgia Law is one of only 32 law
schools nationwide that participates in the International Student Interview Program (ISIP) held every January in New York City. The program attracts more than 150 of the top legal employers from around the world and gives candidates the opportunity to be considered for internship and permanent positions in the U.S. and abroad. Master of Laws graduates are also encouraged and helped to take advantage of training opportunities. Students eligible for Optional Practical Training (OPT) have the option of working in the legal field after graduation for a maximum of 12 months. The OPT program is a great way to be placed with law firms and companies in Georgia and elsewhere in the United States.
The University of Georgia
School of Law has everything
to offer that an LL.M. student
wants: good reputation,
expert faculty, outstanding
library, Southern hospitality,
a welcoming environment
and warm weather.”

Athens, Georgia is the ideal place to be a student. As one of America’s premier college towns, it has much to offer and is the perfect marriage of campus and community. Broad Street in downtown Athens is all that separates the University of Georgia’s historic North Campus and a vibrant downtown community filled with spectacular restaurants, coffee shops, local stores, numerous festivals, a well-rounded music scene and eclectic and affordable housing.
• Athens combines southern charm and great weather with a progressive atmosphere and a rich art, music, and intellectual culture which has earned it the title of “Best College Music Town” by Rolling Stone magazine.
• Atlanta, the state's capital city, is only an hour away from the UGA campus, allowing easy access to thrilling attractions, world-class sports, premier artistic venues and the best shopping in the South.
• The University of Georgia is the home of one of the top collegiate athletic programs in the nation. Famous Sanford Stadium, in the heart of campus, is where more than 92,000 fans gather to watch the Georgia Bulldogs play football during the fall. Students can also watch some of the nation’s best athletes compete in basketball, gymnastics, swimming & diving, tennis and over a half dozen other sports throughout the year.
Athens is a Great ValueThe cost of living in Athens is remarkably affordable when compared with other U.S. cities and is one of the reasons the UGA School of Law is considered one of the best values in the U.S.
