During the test, FlowTech prevented hard scale from forming on the cooling tower and even softened the existing scale to the point that it could be removed with a garden hose. Bacteria: Bacteria counts have historically been around 10,000 CFU/mL, but after FlowTech was installed, heterotrophic plate counts totaled only 2,337 CFU/mL. The bacteria tests were performed independently by FGL Environmental using Standard Method 9215. The formal report is included below. Corrosion: The LarsonSkold Corrosion Index of 2.5 indicates that the water in the system was extremely aggressive. Anything over .8 is a concern, and anything above 1.2 is considered very aggressive. Without any chemical assistance, FlowTech kept the corrosion rates low in a very harsh environment. Both of the results, .2 MPY copper and 2.4 MPY mild steel, are considered "mild or very good". The corrosion tests were performed independently by Nalco, An Ecolab Company. The formal report is included below. Water Savings: By increasing the water reuse in the system from 2.2 to 3.8 cycles of concentration, FlowTech saved 57% of the blowdown water and 26% of all of the water used in the system – or approximately 3,003,429 gallons of water. At a rate of $6.53 per HCF for potable water and $3.26 per HCF for sewer, the university would save approximately $26,220 and $13,095 respectively each year. Other Savings: FlowTech also reduced the maintenance that had previously been required every month to remove scale from the fill on the cooling tower, improved the heat transfer efficiency, and eliminated chemicals and their associated costs and maintenance.

CORROSION RESULTLocalized Corrosion - metal loss occurring at discrete sites on the

surface, such as pits, depressions or confined areas.

Corrosion Type

Corrosion Rate by Weight Loss 2.4 Mils per year 0.062 mm/year

Measured Depth of Metal Loss 7 mils 0.17 mm

COMMENTSThe corrosion rate calculated by weight loss is predominantly a result of corrosion at the edge and/or attachment hardware. The

localized metal loss, however, was measured away from these regions and is representative.
