Supporting a range of students

Who are your learners?

How do their learning needs differ?

How do you meet those differing needs?

The Invisible Mentor

Reasons:

The NMC requiresstudents to be supervised for 40%of their time in practice by a named mentor (direct or indirect supervision)

But what do you organise for when you are not there?

Action Planning Group Work:Scenario 1:

It comes to light that a colleague has allowed a student to administer medication unsupervised. When you discuss this with the student they explain that they discussed the prescription, dose and route with your colleague but the student was not directly supervised giving the medication to the patient

Scenario 2:

You have approached a service user to provide feedback on your student’s practice. They state that the student was rude, unfriendly and ‘talked over me as if I wasn’t even there’ , colleagues have also commented on the student’s brusque manner.
