What IS Wordpress?
• Wordpress is a FREE (open-source) online publishing, blogging and content management system (CMS) for creating, editing and administering user-friendly websites.
• Wordpress powers hundreds of thousands of websites all over the web, including commercial, non-profit, news/magazine, campaign and many other types of sites.

Two ways to get online with WP
Wordpress.org• You have FULL control:
– Ability to upload themes– Ability to upload plugins– Complete control to change
code if you’re technically minded
• Runs on your own domain & web host
• More customization to build a more powerful and dynamic website
Wordpress.com• It’s free and much easier to setup• Everything is taken care of: setup,
upgrades, spam, backups, security, etc
• Your blog is on hundreds of servers, so it’s highly unlikely to go down due to traffic
• Your posts are backed up automatically
• You get extra traffic from blogs of the day and tags
• You can connect like-minded bloggers using tag and friend surfer

• What you’ll need:– Valid e-mail address– Name for your blog/site
• Check your e-mail for youraccount confirmation
• After you’ve signed up, you can begin building your site in a matter of seconds!

From the Dashboard, you can:- Create/edit Posts- Select your site’s theme- Create/edit Pages- Upload media (audio, images, video, & more)- Install upgrades- Edit site settings

Managing WP Themes
• With a Wordpress.com website, you can select from over 100 free themes to give your site the appearance and functionality you want!

Site Settings
Editing your site settings allows you to customize the front-end of your website:
- Posting & Reading settings- Blog title & tagline- Comment settings- Home page- And more!

Creating a PagePages (unlike posts) are static – which means the content won’t change unless you manually edit it.
Most Wordpress websites include a combination of dynamic posts (blog) and pages to help guide or inform visitors.

• To create a new page, select “Pages” from the left-hand toolbar on the WP Dashboard, and click “Add New.”

• Posts are shorter entries listed in reverse chronological order on the blog section of your website.
• Posts can be found in the Archives, Categories, Recent Posts, and other widgets.
• Posts are also displayed in the RSS feed of the blog.
• You can control how many posts are displayed at a time in the Reading Settings.

Getting Started: Wordpress.org
A few things about using Wordpress.org:
• Software is free – but you’ll have to purchase a domain and web-hosting plan
• You’ll have to install the Wordpress software directly onto your web server.
• If you ever need help, the Wordpress.org community and technical help forums offer great advice and services for troubleshooting almost EVERY issue.
