UCAN Leads Asian Christian Media: Survey

UCA News is a high quality media service and a leading, trust-worthy source of information on the Church in Asia,

shows a recently concluded user satisfaction survey.

The first such survey in the 33-year history of UCA News had an overwhelming response from over 60 nations across

the world, with some 10 percent of ucanews.com subscribers taking part in it.

People from Australia to Canada and Peru to Japan answered the survey conducted three years after the text-only

agency was re-positioned as a multi-media service to share information on the Church in Asia.

Readers take ucanews.com seriously. Almost all

expressed confidence in the content of the service,

which is generated through its own offices or network

of reporters in over 20 Asian nations, unlike any other

Christian news service in the world.

Almost all of the respondents (98 percent) registered

satisfaction with the services offered, although their

satisfaction levels varied

It is also seen as a service responsive to the teachings

of the Catholic Church. A total of 89 percent agreed the

service is committed to the Church, with 29 percent

saying it is "extremely responsive" to the teachings of

the Church.

Most respondents (97 percent) also said they are likely to

recommend the service to others.

Some 97 percent of them said they trust what comes in ucanews.com with 37 percent saying they "extremely" trust its

content

Are the services and content focused on readers? Most people agreed. Majority respondents (88 percent) also

consider ucanews.com a leader in the Asian Church's communication field.

Overall, the content was rated

"above average" in terms of accuracy

and language quality. Most people

(more than 90 percent) said the

service has "good" speed in coverage

of Church events and is "very good"

in terms of coverage area of the

Asian region.

Several audio-visual components were added to the site following its re-positioning. Readers welcomed the new

avatar of ucanews.com with some 70 percent saying the photo gallery and blogs are useful. Gospel reflections and

video were rated well. Podcast registered lowest among all sections.

Most people read ucanews.com because of the quality of news and reliability of its content. In the order of

preference News and Features were rated high above all other audio-video content in the site.

Respondents seem to be unhappy with a plethora of Church websites. Nearly 60% of respondents welcomed the idea

of a single one-stop Asia Catholic portal that would focus on sharing information and resources.

Readers agree that the redesigned site is modern, attractive, user friendly and

professional. While roughly 88 percent expressed such opinions some 10 percent

kept away from making comments on the quality of the site.
