VIDEO We open on the New York City skyline. The camera focuses on a specific neighborhood, like the West Village or Williamsburg.   We continue to zero in on a specific street, then a mid-rise tenement or loft building. We get a view from the street, then push in through a window on the second floor. We’re now in a kitchen as an mid 30s Caucasian mom gets her kid ready to run errands. A calendar hangs on the wall showing it’s summer in 2013.

AUDIO + ONSCREEN Soundtrack: Something upbeat and driving from a band like M83. We’ll be able to hear certain ambient noises over the song.   As the video begins, we hear the warm tones of a female announcer, maybe someone like Allison Janney.   ANNCR: This is the future.     It’s not too far off.     In fact, it’s just months away.

VIDEO The mom packs snacks into a tote, all while her daughter sits in a chair watching Saturday morning cartoons on a set with an Roku-like box. Mom sits her iPad on kitchen table and her daughter moves the cartoon from the TV to the tablet.   Mom then turns off the TV and they exit the apartment, the daughter watching her show as she goes.   Out on the street, we see the mom at her car. She’s getting her daughter situated in the back seat.   Once the kid’s all buckled in, the mom hangs the iPad on the back of the passenger seat. The little girl pulls her wireless headphones on and starts bopping her head.

ANNCR: Here, TV isn’t a set.   It’s something you can take with you.   MOM: OK, let’s go.         ANNCR: Something you’ll never have to miss.

VIDEO The Mom then gets in the car and drives off, passing a neighbor — a 20something Asian woman — who’s heading into the building.   The camera follows the Mom’s car around the corner, then zooms into a downstairs unit where a 20something Asian guy is working on his laptop.   As the camera peers over his shoulder, we see he’s sitting in his office/den using U-verse Online to edit a video clip. He picks a movie, jumps to a scene and starts using the scrubber to edit the clip. He then takes his completed clip, taps a share button and posts it to Facebook, reminding all his friends about movie night.

AUDIO + ONSCREEN ANNCR: You can do the programming…     …and the broadcasting, too.

VIDEO At this moment, his girlfriend — who we saw earlier on the sidewalk — walks into the room. She holds up her phone to display the Facebook posting.   She acts excitedly, then startles slightly as she hears a roar from the apartment next door. We do a wipe to reveal what’s happening on the other side.

VIDEO Next door we see three fresh-out-of-college guys dressed in team apparel. As they sit on the couch passionately watching a game, they get a push notification.   One of them gets up to grab a beer, another message appears. While beer guy is gone, one of his buddies starts smack talking through his phone and it appears in a scrolling ticker onscreen.   We cut to a 30-something Hispanic guy in a distant location sending smack talk back, which also appears on screen. This goes on for a bit.   Back in our living room, our beer guy returns and gets a notification on his phone. It prompts him to check out some complementary content on his iPhone, digging deeper into game stats and replays.

Notification: The U.S./Mexico game is in OT. Want to watch?   ANNCR: It lets you connect with those in the room...and those who aren’t.      ANNCR: It knows who you are… Notification on phone and TV: Welcome back, Dave.   ANNCR: …and what you like. Notification: on phone and TV: Update: Germany 4, England 1 Final

VIDEO As he scans the sports content, we can see a 40-something African American businessman standing out at the curb.   With suitcases at his side, the businessman pulls out his phone to find a movie for his upcoming flight. As he navigates to the U-verse Online mobile page, he gets served a list of movies that have been recommended by mood.   He picks one (Mission Impossible 4), then downloads it to a playlist he created that’s named “For My Flight.” Once his download is complete, a notice pops up on the screen.

ANNCR: It can even make a decision when you can’t.     Notification: Your account has been charged $4.99.   ANNCR: Most amazingly, you won’t need a phone line…

VIDEO The young Asian couple from before is hanging a bed sheet on the side of the building. The sun is beginning to set as people arrive and set up folding chairs, prop their feet up on coolers, etc. Some of these faces are familiar as they live in the building. Finally, the host sets his phone on a table and says a movie name. It first appears on screen and then starts to project on the sheet.   There’s a real sense of excitement here. So much so that people clap and throw popcorn as the opening credits roll.   It’s here our camera pans up to the night sky, which gradually fades into a dark U-verse blue. The AT&T logo and Rethink Possible appears and then fades out.
