Graduation Ceremony2020 NATIONAL
2
Dear Endeavour GraduandsYour graduation day is an important milestone in your life. It is both an ending and a beginning, a day to reflect on memories of the past and your dreams for the future. Today you will graduate with a new academic award to your name. This is a major achievement, and confirms that you are qualified in a valuable health science or applied health science field. It is the culmination of your years of dedication and hard work towards completion of this award. The experiences you’ve had, the connections you’ve made and the knowledge and skills that you’ve gained with us have equipped you to take your place in an industry that is respected and sought by most Australians.
The Endeavour College of Natural Health and its alumni are there to support you on your journey. Endeavour is by far Australia’s largest and most enduring institution in this field.
As well as the Alumni association, another common tie binding our graduates is their determination to keep their clients’ needs firmly at the centre of their practice. As part of the Endeavour family you were prepared to understand that the client seeking your help is looking to be heard, respected and treated as a whole person. This is a characteristic that marks our graduates apart, and is a focus that is sorely needed as more Australians turn to the natural health industry for the answers they can’t find elsewhere.
As new dimensions of integrative health practice continue to emerge, there are many career options for you to consider when it comes to using your knowledge to educate or transform the lives of others.
As you shape your career, I encourage you to retain a thirst for knowledge – nothing will serve you better. Listen to your clients and colleagues, learn from your experiences, read in your field, collaborate with others, further your education, stay abreast of current research, and don’t be afraid to challenge assumptions – particularly your own.
Remember you will always have a home at Endeavour, so please keep in touch with us through our Alumni association. As well as providing updates on further professional development, there is nothing that pleases us more than celebrating the success of our graduates as they demonstrate the major contributions that they make across the many fields for which their academic awards have qualified them.
Finally, I want to sincerely congratulate you on the achievement of your graduation. It is an honour to join you today to celebrate with those closest to you. Whatever your dreams are beyond today, I hope the values of lifelong learning, informed reflection, caring for our communities and a holistic approach to care will continue to guide you.
Sincerely,
Professor Michael Weir BA,

Endeavour College of Natural Health
Endeavour College of Natural Health has delivered quality education in the field of complementary medicine for over four decades. Originally established as a small specialist acupuncture school in Brisbane, the College is now the national market leader and largest private institution of its type in the Southern Hemisphere. Endeavour’s physical campus footprint across six metropolitan cities is unique and
offers students flexibility and access to a network of learning facilities that is second to none.
Endeavour offers Bachelor of Health Science Degrees in Nutritional and Dietetic Medicine, Naturopathy, Acupuncture and Myotherapy, as well as a fully online Bachelor of Complementary Medicine.
The history of the graduation ceremony
Degree ceremonies are an esteemed tradition that originate from the 11th century in the medieval universities of Paris and Bologna. At these universities, students (known then as apprentices) studied under masters of certain crafts. At the end of the study, the apprentice achieved a
‘testimonial of skill’, presently known as the ‘degree’. The graduation ceremony celebrated the apprentice’s induction into the profession of the craft. Like all rites of passage it involves special dress, music, speeches and ceremonial symbols to mark the significance of the occasion.
The symbolism of the academic regalia
Academic regalia is an important part of the graduation ceremony. The colours and patterns worn as part of the academic gown signify an individual’s belonging to a particular discipline and the level of mastery in their field. The colour of a cape and hood identifies a graduand’s area of speciality and it was in the 19th century that the colours were standardised across the world. Green was the colour associated with the medieval craft of medicinal plants and herbs and is now widely used to represent
the faculty of medicine. Olive, a variation of green, is used as the colour for graduands of pharmacy. Graduands of our Health Science degrees and advanced diploma qualifications proudly wear the Endeavour College of Natural Health green hood as part of their academic gown. Honours Graduands can be identified by their darker green hood. As benchmarked to Australian universities and tertiary institutions, these colours are nominated by this College as a formal representation of successful study.

Advance Australia Fair
Australians all let us rejoice,
For we are young and free;
We’ve golden soil and wealth for toil;
Our home is girt by sea;
Our land abounds in nature’s gifts
Of beauty rich and rare;
In history’s page, let every stage
Advance Australia Fair.
In joyful strains then let us sing,
Advance Australia Fair.
