Types of Leather used for Making Apparel

Soft and Supple Leathers

Goatskin and Sheepskin suede are generally the most soft and supple leathers which are why tanners classify them as Grade One animal hide.  These leathers are known for their soft and buttery feel and are generally much more aesthetically appealing than other animal hides which makes them pricier and more desirable. The aesthetic appeal and luxurious feel of goatskin and sheepskin suede make them ideal for the manufacture of leather pants and other apparel for women

Hardy and Durable Leathers

Horsehide and cowhide are by far the most hardy and durable leather types. This quality generally appeals to a male customer base which is why cowhide leather jackets are very popular amongst men. Though Horsehide is rarely used in the making of apparel nowadays, cowhide is the mostly widely used leather type and is often averagely priced variety

Both these leathers take some time to break in however they are perfect for rough use and are not easily ripped or torn. These leathers are also commonly used to make popular accessories such as watch straps, belts, shoes, bags and other leather fashion items
