Mainstream movies are the movies that you hear a lot about from other people and from advertisements. They are the movies that play in all the movie theatres, and have endless trailers and advertisements, and usually bigger budgets. The word mainstream is often used as a derogatory term, as some people consider anything mainstream to be dumbed down and marketed to the lowest common denominator (meaning, people who are neither intelligent nor educated nor cultured). MAINSTREAM

Jackass: The Movie is a 2002 American reality comedy film directed by Jeff Tremaine with the tagline "Do not attempt this at home." It is a continuation of the stunts and pranks by the various characters of the MTV television series Jackass, which had completed its unique series run by this time. ‘Jackass’ would be considered a mainstream movie because it has been heavily talked about and advertised. People may agree with this statement when applied to films such as ‘Jackass’ because it isn’t similar to many other films that you may watch in the cinema.

INDEPENDENTMACBETH

MacBeth is an independent film because it is a film production resulting in a feature film that is produced mostly or completely outside of the major film studio system, in addition to being produced and distributed by independent entertainment agencies. These types of films do not typically have as big of a budget as other films and usually do not generate the same profits and revenue in comparison. Macbeth is a 2015 British-French-American adaptation of the Shakespeare tragedy directed by Justin Kurzel and written by Jacob Koskoff, Todd Louiso, and Michael Lesslie, based on William Shakespeare's play of the same name. The film stars Michael Fassbender in the title role and Marion Cotillard as Lady Macbeth. The film was selected to compete for the Palme d'Or at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival. The film has received positive notice for the depiction of the lead character by Fassbender and for the adapted writing of the film script.

NICHEPAINT DRYIN

GAn art film is typically a serious, independent film aimed at a niche market rather than a mass market audience. It's a movie made for a small amount of people( niche), instead of the general population. Generally it's like a Ferrari or a Rolls Royce in cars, built only for a small amount of people. It doesn't mean that it's better or worse than others but it's not to everybody's tastes. The ‘Paint Drying’ film is ten hours long and consists of just one person watching a wall waiting for the paint to dry. This type of film is very niche as there isn’t too many people that would have the time and energy to sit down and watch a film of paint drying on a wall. After raising nearly £6,000 using a Kickstarter crowd funding campaign, he filmed a 10-hour-long movie showing one of the most boring things imaginable: paint drying. That meant that two BBFC examiners had to watch it over a period of two days - because they are not allowed to view more than nine hours of a movie each day.
