1.Roll and Move
• The simplest type of
game
• Typically you roll dice,
land on a space, and
chance determines the
outcome of the game
![Page 4: Types of Boardgames - educationaltoolsportal.eu€¦ · 4.Resource Management •In these games players compete with each other to gather, create, build, etc. •Typically there is](https://reader035.vdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022070922/5fba379b8a1ec557c301d3e0/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
2.Simulation
• All games will probably
have some “simulation”
to them.
• Simulation games put
people into the roles of
simulating a process or a
role
• Sometimes also called
“roleplay”
![Page 5: Types of Boardgames - educationaltoolsportal.eu€¦ · 4.Resource Management •In these games players compete with each other to gather, create, build, etc. •Typically there is](https://reader035.vdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022070922/5fba379b8a1ec557c301d3e0/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
3.Strategy
• These games pit players
against one another and
give players tools that
they can use to
manipulate the game
either in their favor or
their opponents disfavor
• There is typically many
different ways to win the
game
![Page 6: Types of Boardgames - educationaltoolsportal.eu€¦ · 4.Resource Management •In these games players compete with each other to gather, create, build, etc. •Typically there is](https://reader035.vdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022070922/5fba379b8a1ec557c301d3e0/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
4.Resource Management
• In these games players
compete with each other to
gather, create, build, etc.
• Typically there is a point
system and a determinate
end to the game.
• At the end of the game the
person with the most
resources wins
• There are multiple ways to
win the game

5.Cooperative
• Instead of playing against each other, players are attempting to complete a challenge within a game and the cooperation of players strategizing together determines if the game is won or loss.
• Players trying to beat the game instead of trying to beat one another
• Typically players are given a diverse set of tools, and have to figure out the most efficient way to use those tools to win
![Page 8: Types of Boardgames - educationaltoolsportal.eu€¦ · 4.Resource Management •In these games players compete with each other to gather, create, build, etc. •Typically there is](https://reader035.vdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022070922/5fba379b8a1ec557c301d3e0/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
6.Abstract
• These games typically deal more with mathematics, geometry, shapes, etc.
• You could have an “abstract” component to your game that requires some strategy and could simulate an aspect of the Bill Becoming a Law Process
![Page 9: Types of Boardgames - educationaltoolsportal.eu€¦ · 4.Resource Management •In these games players compete with each other to gather, create, build, etc. •Typically there is](https://reader035.vdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022070922/5fba379b8a1ec557c301d3e0/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
7.Card Based
• Strategy and Chance
• Players have a deck of
cards and randomly
draw a set of cards that
allow players do do
different things within
the context of the game
• Players will then play
cards to their own
benefit or to their
opponents demise
![Page 10: Types of Boardgames - educationaltoolsportal.eu€¦ · 4.Resource Management •In these games players compete with each other to gather, create, build, etc. •Typically there is](https://reader035.vdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022070922/5fba379b8a1ec557c301d3e0/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
8.Werewolf
• One or more (usually a minority amount) of players in the game have a secret identity.
• That secret identity puts them in contest with other players in the game.
• And throughout the game there are game mechanics that allow them to sabotage other players.
• Usually these games have multiple objectives and one of them is to gain the advantage by either keeping your identity secret or discovering who is the sabotuer

9.Task or Campaign Based
• Individual or group tasks
• Definite purpose like finish thetask and win point or the wholeprocess
• Open and clear definitions of campaigns and each player needsto reach to be successful
