Merriam-Webster defines a hero as a mythological or legendary figure often of divine descent endowed with great strength or ability. Today’s definition is a little more earthly. We might think of those mythical or fantasy characters, or alien or modern marvels created by our own scientific discoveries. We might think of our courageous first responders, or members of our military who are or have served for our freedom, or scientists working on a cure for cancer, or a surgeon transplanting a heart or astronaut bravely stepping into space, the final frontier, or even a sports figure making a wholly impossible play that wins the big game. We think of character, courage, achievements, role models, personal qualities or strength. We think of going the extra mile, of helping others, of being prepared, accountable, professional, ethical, transparent, and fair. We strive to exceed! Let your Super Hero shine!!! Sharing with special charitable organizations is an important aspect of our annual KPPA forum. Our charity this year is the Family Scholar House and representatives will be at the Social to share their mission. We are partnering with these Super Heroes and hope you will help by donating hats, gloves or mittens, scarves, flash drives and index cards for the families they support and serve. Be sure to look for the flyer for more info.

CALLING ALL SUPER HEROS!!!

You know who you are… right? Right? Oh, I see you believe that Super Heroes wear billowing capes, form-fitting spandex, masks, tactical headgear, or have some technological or magical power or weapon. Not always… This year marks our 33rd Annual

KPPA Forum and Product Expo. On Wednesday evening, Dec. 5th, and we’re inviting all Procurement Super Heroes to join in the comic fun at the Social Event. There will be light snacks and liquid refreshments, dancing to a live DJ, Family Feud and Pictionary and lots of opportunity to mix and mingle with old friends and to make new ones. Find out who’s who, exchange ideas, and build relationships! Strike your best Super Hero pose!!! Since our belief is that there is a hero in all of us, we strongly encourage everyone to dress the part! Wear a costume representing your favorite Super Hero, or your alter ego! It can be your favorite, vintage and much loved Batman T-shirt or an authentic replica of Captain America, Ironman, Supergirl or Wonder Woman. 2018 VENDOR EXPO

Have you ever wondered why certain vendors come to conference and others don’t? Or have you always wanted to meet with particular vendor, but they don’t attend? Now is your opportunity to help recruit vendors for this year’s Expo! The Vendor Recruitment Committee needs your help contacting vendors and inviting them to the Expo. This year the Expo will be at the KY International Convention Center on December 6th from 12:30-5pm. Participating vendors can be those who already have Master Agreements or those who don’t. KPPA FORUM – ADDITIONAL

REGISTRATION OPTIONS ADDED

Spread the word! The additional registration options have been added and are now available.

PRESIDENT’S PEN KPPA Members, In August, I had the privilege of attending my 6th NIGP Forum and I have to say it NIGP totally outdid themselves this year with a record-breaking number of attendees. Although KPPA always is well represented at NIGP’s Forum; this year we had roughly 50 KPPA Members in attendance making this our largest group from Kentucky ever! The 2019 Forum will be in Austin, TX (August 25th-28th) so start making plans now and take advantage of scholarship opportunities provided by KPPA and NIGP. The 33rd Annual KPPA Forum and Product Expo will be held December 5th – 7th in downtown Louisville at the Galt House Hotel. This is a wonderful opportunity to attend a fantastic procurement event and network with professionals across the Commonwealth. If you have not yet signed up yet there is still time and early bird registration ends October 31st! This year KPPA will be partnering with “Family Scholar House” as our community outreach program. Everyone is encourages to bring donated items to the social event on Wednesday night. I look forward to seeing everyone in December! Amy

2018 NIGP FORUM

The annual NIGP Forum and Expo was held August 19-22 in Nashville TN. Over 1,300 purchasing professionals from across the country were in attendance to share ideas and best practices, as well as other topics and trends in the procurement field. KPPA was well represented at the forum with over 40 members attending. Below are a few comments from some of the KPPA members attending this year’s forum: “Although I have been an NIGP member for several years now, this was my first time attending the NIGP Forum. Even though it was overwhelming at first, it was a great experience! Unless you have attended, I don’t think you can fully understand just how large of a conference this really is. There are so many people, so many good classes and in Nashville, so much walking! “I would encourage everyone to attend next year. You don’t want to miss out on the classes or the networking opportunities!”--Kara “The NIGP Forum was a wonderful experience. I was a little nervous reaching out to people outside of the Kentucky group but that ended at registration. Everyone was warm and receptive. I had the pleasure of meeting different people in the purchasing community from across America. The venue was great. The Opryland hotel was beautiful and the location was great for shopping and close by eateries. There's a part of me that wants to go every year. I also learned a bunch of things concerning new federal laws, best practices and the value to the job I do every day. I'm grateful for the opportunity. It was unforgettable.”--Rob “Prepare to be overwhelmed.” They were right! Attending your first NIGP Forum is just that – overwhelming. It is impossible to prepare yourself for the experience. I’ll admit I was nervous, but also eager to be around and learn from people who speak the same procurement language as me. No need for nerves! You never meet a stranger at Forum. Everyone is willing and eager to share their knowledge and experience in procurement or how to find the next session. The sessions I attended were exactly what I needed to build me up and encourage me in my work. We are headed in the right direction. There are others ahead of us and here is what they’ve done. We are not alone. Can’t wait for KPPA Forum in in December!”--Tracey “The 2018 NIGP Forum in Nashville Tennessee was another amazing event this year. One great benefit is networking with other purchasing professionals not only from the United States but several other countries to learn new and innovative ways to procure goods and services! Also the speakers and informational sessions offer great insights into more efficient ways to do our jobs! I am so grateful for the opportunity to attend this event and the education dollars I earned through volunteer opportunities with KPPA help me get approved to attend!”--Tim
