TODAY’S GOSPEL MESSAGE Sunday, June 14th

John 6:51-58 “I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world.”

We consume the Body of Christ as part of the Body of Christ. The Body of Christ is both the congregation who gathers to celebrate the Eucharist—the Church—as well as the Eucharist itself. The bread we break and the wine we bless are a participation in the body and blood of Christ. Nourished by the Body of Christ (the Eucharist), we become the Body of Christ in the world, participating in the mission of Jesus and witnessing to the gospel in our daily lives.

DAILY READINGS FOR THE WEEK

Monday 1 Kings 21:1-16; Matt 5:38-42

Tuesday 1 Kings 21:17-29; Matt 5:43-48

Wednesday 2 Kings 2:1, 6-14; Matt 6:1-6, 16-18

Thursday Sirach 48:1-14; Matt 6:7-15

Friday Deut 7:6-11; 1 John 4:7-16; Matt 11:25-30 The Most Sacred Heart of Jesus (Solemnity) – In the devotion to the Sacred Heart, the heart of Jesus is adored as a symbol of his threefold love: human, spiritual, and divine. By the Middle Ages, Jesus’ Sacred Heart was an object of personal devotion, and in the late seventeenth century, the devotion became a liturgical celebration. In modern times, the image of the Sacred Heart in a home is a sign that Jesus’ love rules over the family.

Saturday 2 Chron 24:17-25; Luke 2:41-51 The Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Memorial) – Devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary is closely linked with that of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Popular devotion began in the seventeenth century, and, in 1805, permission was given for a local feast of the Pure Heart of Mary. In 1944, the feast was extended to all the Western Church. Mary’s Immaculate Heart signifies her sanctity and love as the Mother of God.

I thank all of you for allowing me to serve you here and I wish you well along with every grace and blessing. Our Lady of Mount Carmel, pray for us. Sincerely, Fr. Mark Schaffner, O.Carm.

REST IN PEACE Please remember in your prayers

all the military men and women who have died this week.

Join us on Facebook Live

Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church is bringing parishioners together—remotely— during the pandemic. Join us on Sunday mornings at 10 AM for our live streamed Mass via Facebook Live. The Archdiocese has allowed for churches to open for private prayer only. Fr. Mark has decided to open the elevator side door only during those times. Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church will be open from 9 AM to 3 PM on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and on Sunday from 11:30 AM to 2 PM. Masks must be worn while inside the Church and social distancing of six feet between each person must be maintained. On Wednesday afternoons at 3 PM, join Fr. Anthony for recitation of the Rosary on Facebook Live. And, on Thursday mornings at 8:30 we are live streaming the daily Mass for that day each week. We hope you will join us however you are able. We look forward to when we can see everyone again in person. In the meantime, stay safe and stay healthy.

Our Lady of Mount Carmel,

pray for us!

The altar flowers this week are given by

The Durso Family in memory of

A Message From Sr. Regina Religious Education Program

During this time of stay-at-home we can grow in so many ways with God and our family. We can participate in the virtual Masses on television, pray for all people here and throughout the world, pray for our family and friends, donate to our Church and to those in need if we are able, pray for those who are unemployed, and so many more causes. May the Lord bless us and keep us safe.

Prayer for Peace

We will wait for your peace to come, O God. The reality of violence is on the news.

Fear grows in our hearts. Our calm is lost, our joy forgotten.

Help us to believe that peace is possible.

We will wait for your peace to come, O God. The weary peacekeepers keep vigil,

struggle while separated from loved ones. Families bereft try to find some hope in sorrow.

Help us to believe that peace is possible.

We will wait for your peace to come, O God. The violence, the disregard for life,

we cannot believe it. So incredible, so evil, so unfair.

Help us to believe that peace is possible.

We will wait for your peace to come, O God. And we pray for the innocent victims of violence,

for all those people who suffered a loss. Help us to believe that peace is possible.

We will wait for your peace to come, O God. We pray for national and world leaders, that you will guide their critical decisions in the days, weeks and months to come. Help us to believe that peace is possible.

A Message From Barbara Verdonck Academy of Our Lady of Mount Carmel

I want to begin by saying how proud I am of our Academy of Our Lady of Mount Carmel community. We could not have imagined the crisis we are dealing with, and we – teachers, students and their families – have adapted and risen to the occasion. Students continue to attend online classes and submit high levels of academic work and our parents have been so supportive.

The crisis is especially hard on our graduates – the Class of 2020. We were not able to have our traditional celebrations, but we celebrated them in a special way.

We also celebrated our younger graduates – PreK 3, PreK 4 and Kindergarten students.

Our fifth grade class will also have the opportunity to celebrate with a “Moving Up” ceremony on June 16th.

We have stayed strong and we have so many great things to celebrate.

I look forward to the day when we can all be together so we can celebrate the great family we are.

Go Warriors! Stay safe!

“When families bring children into the world,

train them in faith and sound values, and teach them to contribute to society,

they become a blessing in our world.”

—Pope Francis

“Because there is one bread, we who are many are one body, for we all partake of the one bread.” (1 Corinthians 10:17)

As disciples of Jesus, we are called to lead holy lives and invite others to join us. Living a stewardship lifestyle, being grateful and generous with our gifts, serves a twofold purpose. One, it help build God’s kingdom here on earth. Two, it helps us strengthen each other’s relationship with God the Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit.

I pray, most gentle Jesus, by your precious blood, deliver me from all evils,

past, present, and to come. Give me a lively faith, a firm hope,

and perfect charity, so that I may love you with all my heart,

and all my soul, and all my strength. Make me firm and steadfast in good works, and grant me perseverance in your service so that I may be able to please you always.

Amen.

A Message from Elliot Guerra and the Office of Concern at St. Cecilia . . . The Office of Concern at St. Cecilia is still in need of donations. The following are ways to help:

Donate Needed Items to the Office of Concern

We get it. Bare grocery shelves are pretty normal in our area, but if you can provide our friends with any variety of frozen meat, canned fish (tuna), and dry pasta, it would be a great help. There are many ways to help. 1. Donate any frozen meat, canned fish and dry pasta to the Office of Concern. You can drop it off at OLMC or we can pick it up at your home’s front steps! 2. The Office of Concern has an URGENT REQUEST for size 3, 4, 5 and 6 diapers and baby wipes. If you are able in these difficult times, you can donate by either dropping the diapers off, have them shipped or send a donation to the Office of Concern earmarked “Diapers.” You could also donate on our website or on Facebook. 3. Write a check payable to “OLMC” and mark it “Scrip” in the memo line. We will purchase supermarket gift cards (at no additional cost to you) to assist our Academy and provide the funds to the Office of Concern.

Make a purchase at Metropolitan Plant & Flower Exchange valued at $50 or more and Metropolitan will donate $10 to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Tenafly.

Complete Form Below & Present at Time of Purchase Expires 6/30/20
