“Wewant our youth to show that the startto living a “clean” life was keeping theirneighbourhoods clean,” he said.

“The area was cleaned up by coating overthe graffiti with wet cement and by sweep-ingup the rubble andall of the smashedelec-tronic parts left behind by scrap metalthugs.

“We were also assisted by the neighbour-hood watch team who also gave a hand toclean up the rubble along the canal, as wellas cut the grass on the play park so that the

According to one anonymous reader thegovernments of the world are hiding some-thing huge...There might actually be two suns! The reader is also open to the possibility

that there might be a large planet some-where between the Earth and the sun andshe’s not talking about Mercury or Venus. The reader and a friend used different

cameras when they photographed the sunrecently. The various images all had one thing in

common– a ghostly sphere borders the sun. What could this be?The SouthAfricanAstronomical Observ-

atory (SAAO) reckons it’s a lens flare. The reader insists, however, that it is

muchmore likely that they’re hiding some-thing from us.She adds: “It’s been very hot recently and

this could be the reason. I’ve been on theinternet and I can’t find anything that sayssomething strange is happening! I mailedthe photos to SAAO and they told me it’san optical illusion. How could three camer-as have the same optical illusion?”Most are well aware that suns or planets

don’t just drop by the solar system for aquick visit and then scuttle off again, butthis newspaper nonetheless thought itcould be interesting to hear what SAAOsays about these photos. When TygerBurger told an SAAO out-

reachastronomerNicolaLoaring that she’sclearly part of an elaborate and globalwideconspiracy, she laughed: “Well, obviouslyI’m in on it!”Cape TownPhotographic Society’s Detlef

Basel clears the confusion up for almosteveryone when he says: “We are dealingwith a camera flare. If this was to be a newplanet the rest of the world would haveknown about it long ago.”The reader obviously refuses to believe

this.“This doesn’t make sense what they are

saying. For three days I took pics and fromthree different cameras. Also the weather! Why doesn’t anyone want to see the facts,”she asks in exasperation.Considering that the “other” heavenly

body is about eight times smaller than thesun when viewed from Earth, it would ei-ther be absolutelymassive and far away, oralternatively, as big as the Earth some-where between our planet and Venus.Since the “other body” can be seen next

to the sun it cannot be a planet becausefrom our perspective it would only be a sil-houette.This “other body” produces its own light

so it could be a sun. However, if there’s another sun in the vi-

cinity then we are already dead accordingto Isaac Newton.Loaring concludes: “Light often bends or

refracts through the lenses of cameras.Thismultiple reflection can result inmulti-ple images of the object and other artifactswhich is what I think the spot is on her pic-ture.“It is also common to have ‘ghost images’

or flares when the primary light source isparticularly bright.”

Secret planetkept hiddenfrom world

Several pictures sent to TygerBurger by areader suggests that there’s a massiveheavenly body between Earth and the Sun.

The battle for under-17 football domi-nance will resume this weekend whenthe 10th annual EngenKnockoutChal-

lenge takes place. People’s Post is the tour-nament’s print media sponsor.Regarded as a proving ground for Cape

Town’smost talented young footballers, thechallenge is hotly contested by 16 of theMother City’s best teams each year. The 10th edition will be no different; fea-

turing the under-17 sides from four differ-ent professional teams, two of South Afri-ca’s best academies and some of the Cape’smost well known amateur clubs. In Group A, Pinelands-based Old Mutual

Academy, Mitchells Plain’s Kenpark Unit-ed, Green Point Salesians and Island Rov-ers will compete for the top two places anda spot in the next round.

FavouritesWith excellent facilities, coaching to

match and a track record littered with thespoils of junior tournaments, Old Mutualare clear-cut favourites to qualify top of thegroup and face the second placed finisher

from Group B.The restwill have to fight it out for second

place. Both Kenpark and Island Rovers arecapable of sneaking through.InGroupBCape Town’s EngenKnockout

defending champions and five-time victorsAjax Cape Town are expect to brush asideany challenge in the group and finish withthree wins and a healthy goal difference.Vasco daGama should fill the second spot

after breezing through the last qualifica-tion roundwith a 100 % record and an aver-age of three goals per game. Cape Unitedand Kuils River FC will most likely contin-ue on to thePlate section of the tournament.Group C should be the toughest. While

tournament hosts and former championsSantos will be favourites to finish first, therace for second place is less clear cut.

Form sideOf the three, Grassy Park’s Crusaders is

the side in best form after banging out 10goals in three wins during qualifying. Butdespite less impressive track records, CokeCup senior champions Hanover Park andKraaifontein City could be dark horses.Kick-off at 17:30 on Friday.

SAREL BURGER

Rovers have the title in mindTHOMAS CAROLUS

Island Rovers will hope to keeptheir Northern Suburbs Foot-ball Association Super Leaguetitle hopes alive when they faceRiverside Rangers at LavisPark on Saturday. They were unlucky to be

knocked out of the Knock-OutCup by Blue Downs Spurs lastSunday, but could still lift sil-verware this season in the formof the league title.Rovers surprise defeat at the

hands of BellstarUnited last Sa-

turday leaves them with a fourpoint lead, but they have the op-portunity to cut that signifi-cantly with a home win.It will be no easy task against

a Riverside Rangers side whoremain unbeaten in the secondround after seven games andwho will have been boosted bytheir 4-0 victory over Kalk-steenfontein AFC on Saturday.Says Tony Sekuie, spokes-

man for Island Rovers: “Wewillhave to close them down andfight for the ball. They ... are adangerous opponent.”
