Low Vision Clinic Evaluations For school-aged children who have usable residual vision and who have the physical and cognitive skills required to learn to use an optical aid. An examination conducted by an
OPTOMETRIST who has worked extensively with low vision patients.
An evaluation from a CERTIFIED
LOW VISION THERAPIST who is knowledgeable about the needs of a child with low vision at school.
An evaluation from a TEACHER OF
THE VISUALLY IMPAIRED who is knowledgeable about distance vision aids and sunshades.
An ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY
CONSULTANT familiar with adaptive electronic equipment for students with visual impairments.
PLEASE NOTE:
WCBVI clinic exams DO NOT
replace routine eye care and
examinations by the child’s family
eye doctor. Students are expected
to have an ocular report dated
within 3 years of clinic.
WCBVI sends out
a call for referrals statewide in the
FALL in order to plan for the
upcoming school year.

Refraction Clinic Evaluations
For students with low vision,
exceptional needs, and multiple
disabilities.
A slower paced testing and
examination clinic geared to the
sensitivity and special needs of
these students.
A screening only, not to replace
regular eye exams.
To determine if glasses would be
beneficial or if a change in
prescription is necessary.
If possible, provide information
regarding functional levels of vision.
Provide data to assist in developing
programming intervention for
working with children with special
