Introduction• Professional recruitment entrepreneur Scott Robarge helps fast-

growing technology companies find the skilled professionals they need for their continued success. When locating desired talent, Scott Robarge uses mobile-based technology and social media platforms such as Twitter.

Twitter is known for its 140-character limit, which was enacted when text messaging was the primary method of sending Tweets. Now that smartphones are so ubiquitous, Tweets aren’t limited to just characters. They can include photos, Vines, video, and more. As a result, the company has been exploring ways to provide more flexibility to its service.

Twitter• While it has considered increasing the number of

allowable characters, the concise nature of Tweets is one of Twitter’s distinguishing characteristics. Hence, in May 2016, the company announced it would be making changes as to what counts toward the 140-character limit.

Changes include no longer counting @names when replying to a tweet, nor media attachments, such as videos, GIFs, or Quoted Tweets. These new changes mean users have more characters left for words to Tweet. These changes will be rolled out gradually throughout 2016.
