Background
The value of local craftsmen’s skill is not recognized.
Heritage that is disappearing.
Local Heritage
to be preserved and documented with a deep research work
to be valorized and enhanced, for a future developement that leverages on local resources
assets of knowledge to be preserved but also used
Role of Design
Focus on the process more than the product itself. Objects have a story embedded; it is the story of their creation. Every object tells the story of the encounter between the designer and the craftman. So objects are alive, warm, human.Process of weaving, wich is also building a relationship.Different stories that are interlaced in a dinamic pattern.

Explore
We visited local markets, little workshops and craftsmen houses, to understand the basics of their technique as well as the range of products that they normally produce.
Idea Generation
Back in Shanghai we were taking care of our roof garden, talking about how difficult it is to transplant without breaking pots or damaging roots.
Concept
A series of woven pots and kits for urban farming in different sizes, designed with local craftsmen. The bag of soil that is kept inside the basket can be removed and cut, making it easy to transplant into a bigger planter or open field.
*the one in the pic is a prototype.
Co-Design
Our was an un-finished design, details have been discussed with the craftman.
Production
Soil from Biofarm
Upcycled bag
Woven basketby Shi Laoshi
Once we had the basket (so far in three different sizes), we added the soil (with natural nutrients, from Biofarm), and the bags (upcycled from old bags farmers use to carry the rice)
Thank you!
