TECH TALKS Throughout this term we have had the privilege of having a number of amazing people to share their science knowledge with our senior children. We have had Brad Aujard explain surveying and show the equipment in operation; Dr Allan Hampson, Virologist, explaining viruses and how to manage them and Cameron Fisher, an expert in Industrial robotics, explaining what they do and what skills you need to enter the industry. Tomorrow we are being visited by Matt Jasper who is a journalist and cameraman for the ABC, recently working on Foreign Correspondent. He will be talking about the industry and what he does. We thank all of these amazing people most sincerely for the time they have given. It has been an extraordinary opportunity for our students. FATHER’S DAY EVENING The Father’s Day Evening, which was run by the mothers, was attended by about 170 Dads and children. It was very busy and the children certainly had a wonderful time. Thank you to all the Mums that organised and helped out and the Dads for being there with their children.
STAFFING FOR TERM 4 Mr Fly is returning from long service leave next term so the Science classes will resume. The children, of course, have had the Tech Talks during this term, which has been wonderful. Mrs Phillips (nee Miss Radda) is also returning a term earlier than expected, which is wonderful news. Mrs Phillips will be working in a number of grades throughout the term. SOLAR BOATS Our Grade 5/6 children are competing in the upcoming Solar Boats competition at Scienceworks in October. During this term they have been building their solar boats and in the process learning about solar power and the engineering of moving an object through water effectively.

SOLAR BOATS CHALLENGE 2014 - WOKRSHOP 2
Since our last update, the Level 5 and 6 students have continued to work on constructing their solar boats for the
challenge, on Saturday October 18.
We held another workshop after school and once again it was great to see the dads, mums and grandfathers come
and assist the students.
At the previous workshop, most of the boats were wired permanently and thus we only had 3 boats to finalise. While
these boats were being completed, the other teams were testing and timing their boats, inserting the guidelines and
sealing the boats. Our wonderful helpers once again assisted and guided the students in all these tasks
Another component of the competition is the poster section, whereby the students need to report on how their boats
were formed. The students need to keep notes on the design and construction process, research information on solar
energy and make sure they have labeled diagrams and photos. All this information needs to be presented in a neat
and colorful poster.
Once again, a HUGE thank you to Corey Raabe, Duncan Hamilton, Richard Wong, Jane Fincham, Adrian Ligthart and
Manjit Basra, for their assistance. Thank you also to Mrs Lim for preparing the guidelines for us.

Last Friday 12th September was our school’s art show. Friday
was so busy but it was very successful. There was delicious food,
great performances, beautiful art and amazing mini movies
which were showcased in the mini cinemas. It was great
preparing but even better on the night.
Overall I enjoyed the Art show very much, especially the food.

CRE8 was jam packed with fun, so
much to do in 4 hours. I loved how
the gym was halved in two. One half
was the gallery side and the other
half was where people performed. I
liked how we surprised everyone
with a flash mob. Overall CRE8 was a
great night and I think everyone
loved it.

It was the 12th September 2014. It was CRE8.
Months of planning had gone into it. I was
helping Mrs Hume with the sound. When the
first act was on I was really nervous. When I had
time to walk around I saw my pieces of art and I
had time to reflect on how fantastic building
CRE8 was! After that I went and looked at the
photos that I took and put into a movie called
“The Hands of CRE8”. It turned out great!

I thought that the CRE8 night was a
great success. Although it was a bit
squishy in the sitting area, the the
performances and the exhibition
were fantastic. The way that it was
set up really showed off our work
and the food was a big hit. Every
student worked really hard to
perfect their art, animations, movies
or performances.

I thought that CRE8 was a great night. I had fun
creating the chair, shoe and print that were shown at
CRE8. My iMovie was a great achievement. I thought it
was very funny. I played the violin at the very start of
CRE8 and lots of people enjoyed it. Overall the night
was a great success.
