ST. PETER RUTLAND

REFRESHMENTS AFTER 11:00 AM MASS LAST WEEK

Refreshments were made available last week after the 11:00 AM

Mass; thank you to those who set up, to those who provided the

refreshments, and to those who participated in the fellowship and

gathering, and last, but not least, to those who cleaned up after-

wards.

MSJ SCHOOL MASSES AT ST. PETER’S RESUME

Almost every week, there is a Mass celebrated for the students

and staff of MSJ; up until last year’s academic school year, these

Masses were celebrated in the school chapel; since the chapel at

MSJ school is used as a gathering place at the beginning of each

school day and the decorum of the students for those gatherings

is different from that expected of them for Mass, their weekly

Wednesday morning Mass will be celebrated in St. Peter’s

church, in the fall and spring, unless otherwise noted in the Bul-

letin, under the Calendar of Events, beginning on Wednesday,

September 11

th

. Anyone who wishes to participate in these

Masses is more than welcomed to participate. There may be

times when a last minute change must take place, so if you plan

on participating in these Masses, it may be well to call the Friary

office on those mornings to double check if the Mass is taking

place.

ST. PETER COLLECTION REPORT

CONGRATULATIONS GRANDPARENTS

Sunday, September 8

th

is “Grandparents Day”; congratulations

to all who are Grandparents and thank you for the beautiful ex-

ample you have been for your children and grandchildren. You

play a special role in the lives of your children and grandchil-

dren, as well as in our parish community. We pray for God’s

blessings upon you, as this day is dedicated to you.

ST. PETER’S SEPTEMBER MONTHLY MAINTENANCE

& UPKEEP COLLECTION LAST WEEKEND

Last weekend the monthly maintenance and upkeep collection

was taken up. We are ever so grateful and appreciative to all

who so generously contribute towards this collection.

IMPORTANT CHANGE IN ST. PETER’S

WEBSITE ADDRESS

St. Peter’s has recently migrated our Parish Website to a new

platform. Our site is now tied to the Diocesan website. This will

allow our website visitors easy access to our information as well

as having all the resources from the Diocese. Our new website

will be more interactive with a calendar, current bulletin, reli-

gious education schedule and other Parish information including

our parish history and interesting photos. You are invited to

check our site regularly as well as the Diocesan portion with

links to the Daily and Weekend Mass Readings and all the many

events that occur throughout Vermont. The new site address is:

StPeter.VermontCatholic.org. Our old site will be retired in the

next few months.

ST. PETER’S ANNUAL FINANCIAL REPORT

The Annual Financial Report will be given next weekend, Sep-

tember 14/15, 2019.

ST. PETER’S 2019-2020 FAITH FORMATION

PROGRAM

St. Peter’s Faith Formation Program under the leadership of

Michael Audette will begin next Sunday, September 15

th

, with

the Commissioning of our Catechists during the 11:00 AM

Mass; if you haven’t already registered your children you may

do so next Sunday.

CHOIR REHEARSALS

Rehearsal for our support choir began last week, and unless oth-

erwise noted in the Bulletin, will be held every Sunday begin-

ning at 10:30 AM. We would like to invite anyone to seriously

consider becoming a part of our support choir. Remember the

words of St. Augustine that “when you sing, you pray twice”!

CALVARY CEMETERY CLEAN-UP DAY

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 5, 2019—8:30 AM

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Calvary Cemetery and the West Street Cemetery (facing Ca-

sella’s) are being extremely well kept and cared for by Tom

Poczobut and his crew. However, there are a number of graves

that need to be uprighted and other clean-up work that Tom and

his crew are not able to do. Tom Giffin of VOCA (Vermont Old

Cemetery Association) has graciously volunteered his services

to assist us on Saturday, October 5

th

, beginning at 8:30 AM to

do a major clean-up of Calvary Cemetery. He and his volun-

teers, and others that have been solicited to donate their time,

efforts, materials and heavy duty equipment are willing to assist

us with this project. And so I am appealing to you, parishioners

and anyone who have loved ones buried at Calvary Cemetery, or

who may have an interest in Calvary Cemetery, to save the date

of Saturday, October 5

th

, to bring a wheelbarrow, rakes, pruners

or any other tools, that you might have, or just your hands and

presence to help in the cleaning up of Calvary Cemetery. The

more hands we have on this day, the faster the job will get done.

Upon completion of this project we will have every reason to be

even more proud of the cemetery than we already are.

CATECHETICAL SUNDAY—SEPTEMBER 15, 2019

The 3

rd

Sunday in September, this year September 15

th

, has been

designated as “Catechetical Sunday”. In 1935, the Vatican pub-

lished a document that asks every country to acknowledge the

importance of the Church’s ministry and to honor those who

serve the Christian community as catechists. On this day,

“Those whom the community has designated to serve as cate-

chists will be called forth to be commissioned for their minis-

try.” This is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the role that

each person plays, by virtue of their Baptism, in handing on the

faith and being a witness to the Gospel. Catechetical Sunday is

an opportunity for all to rededicate themselves to this mission as

a community of faith.

The root word, “catechesis,” is from a Greek word meaning “to

echo, or resound.” Catechesis is the act of resounding or bring-

ing the Church’s teachings to the world. A catechist is one who

teaches in the name of the church. Catechesis is a distinct and

special ministry in the Church. This ministry of teaching in the

name of the Church has a profound dignity, which is why cate-

chists are formally commissioned by the Church. And so we

thank our catechists who will be commissioned as catechists to

pass on the faith to our younger generation.

FIRST ANNUAL DIOCESAN PASTORAL

MINISTRIES CONFERENCE

SAVE THE DATE—SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 28, 2019

9:30 AM—4:00 PM

The Annual Diocesan Pastoral Ministries Conference is a day-

long opportunity for Catholics around the Diocese to gather for

formation, prayer, and networking. The key note speaker will be

Ron Huntley from DIVINE RENOVATION who will focus on

helping us and our parishes move from “maintenance to mis-

sion”. Breakout sessions will be offered in the morning and af-

ternoon which will focus on the areas of pastoral ministry, reli-

gious education, youth ministry, marriage and family life, wor-

ship, RCIA, and communications. Anyone is invited, especially

those involved in parish ministries, those involved in implement-

ing the Diocesan Synod in the parish, those with a heart of evan-

gelization, those interested in vibrant parishes, those seeking to

be more involved. More information to come in future Bulletins.

YOUNG ADULT RETREAT

SEPTEMBER 13-14, 2019

In light of the Diocesan synod and the desires expressed among

the faithful regarding greater youth and young adult outreach,

two retreats are being offered for people ages 19-39; the first is

on Friday, September 13

th

, beginning at 7:00 PM to Saturday,

September 14

th

, 6:00 PM. The retreat will be held at the

Duhaime Retreat Center in Jacksonville, VT. The cost is $65.00

and you need to bring a sleeping bag, toiletries, journal and

towel. The Spiritual Directors of this retreat will be Daughters of
